This is a review of the Roman settlement, 12th century chapel and neolithic burial mound. Really interesting, the Roman settlement being the highlight and probably the most interesting of the 3. All within about a mile of llygwy beach so walkable from there and all free to visit. Well worth it, we've stayed at llygwy about 6 or 7 times now over the years but this was the first time we even knew about these monuments. Well worth a visit. The photo below was meant to be a photosphere but it hasn't translated well so just looks weird, can't delete it

It is a very interesting stop over point when you visit Lligwy. The site is only a short drive out of the village. There is no parking. Instead, pull in to the lay by opposite the entrance - there is probably enough space for two cars. It's not a long stop, just fifteen minutes or so, but it's interesting to see 4000+ year old history and soak up the atmosphere. It's worth the stop.

This and Din Lligwy hut settlement is perhaps the best place to visit if you like ancient places. Although excavated in early 20th century it has not been tampered and moved nor preserved with a mound. So what you see is the original tomb. As much as I love archaeological research I much prefer viewing the real thing as it was found.

This burial chamber is well worth a look when you think it would still have been a 3000 year old monument when the Din Lligwy stone village up the road was active and thriving 2000 years ago. It used to hold the remains of 30 men and women and children and the raised limestone pavement leading to it is still visible and just how did they get that 25 ton headstone up to where it is without any metal tools?. There are visible vertical gouge marks in this headstone so were heavy rope pulleys used somehow?. Respectfully fenced it which was nice to see and free to view. Parking at Din Lligwy layby or on a nearby...

There is a place to park for about six to ten cars further on up the road outside the Romano village and ruined chapel. It’s a short walk back to the burial chamber. All three historical sites are really interesting and evocative. The village is extremely well preserved - it’s rare to see a farmstead from 400 ad - usually Roman villas remain rather than a village of local people. I think more should...
