Another great reserve managed by Montgomery Wildlife Trust.
The hide is massive and has huge windows to look out across the lake. Its easy to spend hours soaking up the views.
There is a short walk around a meadow and a pond worth dipping so bring a net and a bowl. Me and the children found fish, clams, dragonfly nymphs, waterboatmen, diving beetles, lots of different snails and alsorts of other watery bugs.
There is a sheltered picnic area too.
I think there's a toilet here though I haven't used it yet.
Parking is free and its easy to find Llyn Coed y Dinas.
I've visited many times and loved everyone.
If you have time its also worth checking out the other nearby WWT reserves.
Severn Farm Pond is on an industrial estate but you will be pleasantly suprised. Has pond dipping, sensory garden, boardwalks and one hide and a stand point. Its a wonderful space go and enjoy.
Dolydd Hafren is on the river Severn and the 'road' to it is in very poor condition with massive pot holes. There are two hides and a good walk to both but worth it.
Hats off to Montgomery Wildlife Trust for managinging these reserves. Check out their website for details on the other 15 reserves...
Read moreVisited recently - nice little nature reserve which has been created out of unused space (there is a board that tells the story of how the reserve came about).
There are a few benches to sit at, a kids playground area, a sheltered look out and also a sheltered cabin sort of area with little open windows and a large window which looks out onto the main island where the birds reside. Inside the cabin, there is information about the reserve and the type of birds you may see. The car park is sufficient and is free.
However... This is a nice nature reserve if you are passing by it or are already in the area, but after visiting, I wouldn't go out of my way to go there specifically. The walk around the reserve didn't even take 10 minutes it was a very short circle and both me and my partner were surprised by how short the actual path part was - plus the birds don't actually come very close so unless you have binoculars or zoom in on your phone camera you can't see them in detail.
Was still a nice visit as part of...
Read moreGreat nature reserve with a good sized car park. It houses one very large hide looking out over the water with views of a close up island and a larger one further away. There is also a sand bank and various kingfisher posts. Floating on the water are also a selection of floating islands. There is a second structure suited for educational purposes with a shallow pond and lots of interactive elements for younger children. However it could do with another hide facing the water at another viewpoint around the gravel lake to give an alternative view of...
