A really lovely place to visit. The castle has a very homely feel, unlike some stately homes. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. There's a good tea shop and the gardens just go on and on. The plants are all in great condition, so if you are a garden fan or enjoy photographing interesting specimen plants, then this is a perfect place to go. You'll need at least 2-3 hours but could easily enjoy 4-5. There are both formal and informal planted areas - plus a woodland walk we didn't have time for. There's a maze plus a wild board-walk and structures to keep kids amused. Tickets are reasonable and valid for a few days if you're in the area.

This is a great place to visit, lovely gardens. Make sure you book yourself in for the house tour. I was drawn here as I wanted to follow in my Great, Great Grandfather's footsteps. He is pictured in the photo with his regiment before they set off for the Boer War in 1900. He had quiet the adventure and was one of the few to survive. His Great Grandmother was Jemima Nicholas. He grew up in poverty and was born in the shadow of Pembroke Castle. I wanted to honour him by standing in the same spot 122 years later. RIP Alfred Nicholas. You met your destiny in Southampton when you demobilised. I kept your promise!

Gorgeous gardens. Tickets are valid for a week so you can revisit free! We didn't see everything so we're going back. Amazing plantings, glasshouses and fernary. The walled garden is a delight. Lots of things to do for the kids, tree house, jungle boardwalk etc. Lovely restaurant and tea shop. We were there in early September but I'm pretty sure it would be beautiful in Spring and Summer too. There's a decent website so you can plan your day. Disabled friendly; I haven't checked the whole site but the main garden areas had good even paths for mobility scooters, prams and pushchairs. Enjoy!

This is an absolutely stunning and sensational Castle and Gardens attraction in the Pembrokeshire Countryside. The place is very unique in the sense that the Castle and Gardens is owned by a charitable trust rather than a very rich after it was handed to very charitable trust in 1987 by the Phillips Family who used to own it. The place is of a fairly decent size and there is plenty to see and do all the same making for a very memorable day out with The Walled Garden, Jungle Boardwalk, Glasshouse & Wildlife Garden, Jungle Garden, Dew Pond, Winter Garden, Peep-in-Wood, Peach House Walk, Courtyard and Heritage Centre & Castle to see. The Jungle Boardwalk provides a lovely walk through the exotic elements of the garden and also the Jungle Garden where you can see some Rhubarb Gunnera and Palm Trees along with some other exotic plant life, which blend beautifully together and add some bright cheerful colour to the garden. The Walled Garden has some spectacular flower borders with a beautiful array of colour and is probably the best part of the garden due to the spectacular variety of Plants and dazzling colours coming from the garden, which really helps to add some spice to the garden and makes it very attractive and for a more relaxing stroll around plus there is a lovely pond feature in the middle of the Walled Garden to add a lovely further dynamic to it. The Courtyard and Heritage Centre has some interesting plant displays but also some information displays which are very interesting about the history of the Gardeners at the place but also the lives they led. The Peach House Walk, which is adjacent to the Walled Garden continues the theme with more beautiful spectacular flower borders and magnificent transitions of colour, which are beautiful and amazing to the naked eye. Visitors can also go for a walk around Peep-in- Wood which has great features to it such as The Winter Garden, Myrtle Avenue, Dew Pond & Tree Fern Glade with the Dew Pond being the stand out feature due to the magnificently picturesque views you can enjoy across it and The fact that it blends in beautifully with it woodland setting. Visitors can also enjoy a visit to the Castle itself and its interior, which usually opens at 13:30hrs with guided tours available at interval times lots and there is a cost of an extra £5 for a guided tour of the Castle. The interior of The Castle is absolutely spectacular with a host of amazing paintings to see but some fantastic furniture aswell. There are room information guides in each of the rooms detailing the history of the room and also referencing the furniture within it. Photography is allowed on the inside of the Castle without a flash. The Castle on the outside is just as outstanding as the inside with the great transitions between the modern parts of the building and those that are slightly earlier and shows how well the different elements blend in beautifully together. The gardens also have some Ice Houses where you enjoy the beauty of them and their role. There is also an interesting display about the history of the Castle in the galleries and there is an intriguing and interesting collection of Lawnmowers in the Lawnnmower section, which is spectacularly unique in itself. There is a restaurant at the place selling a lovely variety of food and drink at reasonable prices. There is a small selection of gifts at the entrance at reasonable prices. Overall this is a really fantastic, enjoyable and excellent place to visit, which makes for a thoroughly enjoyable, excellent and brilliant day out. Definitely worth a visit if visiting or staying near to or in...

What a lovely day out! I took my children and nephews out on mass for the day at Picton castle and gardens and it was fab. My family live locally but I hadn't visited picton for years. They have obviously been busy in that time as the whole place is very tidy, clean and spruced up with lots of nice things for the kids. The maze and boardwalk are fun and then there is the fairy doors walk through the woods below the walled garden which keeps the younger ones running onwards. The walled garden is truly lovely and now has a coffee and sandwiches stall at the end. The fernery is very nice too. The owl gardens was a lovely surprise with loads of owls and then other animals like otters and a skunk! The bird talk is a must and was very funny with the presenter having a real dry wit about the animals and his job as keeper/trainer. Even though it was a drizzly day the kids were so occupied they didn't complain. We had lunch in the castle courtyard seated on the outside tables. One word of caution, wait for food was very long (about 40mins) even though it was early and not super busy. However the food when it arrived was super yum, nice sized portion and piping hot. I recommend the tortilla. So in conclusion very well worth the reasonable entrance fee and I noticed they do mystery escape rooms! May well give that a look when I visit family in pembrokeshire next time.

(In closing I'll mention they should sort out the sink in the gents where the tap gushes onto the back of...

Had a great few hours at Picton Castle despite a high of 11 degrees mid June! I'm only deducting 1 star because entry fee did not include a guided tour of the castle, this was a further £6 each which wasn't made clear until we had paid the £12 admission. We decided to not do the tour as felt a little cheated.

The high was definitely the walled garden which was beautiful even though a further 4 weeks would see it full of much more colour as blooms were waiting to burst. So so many varieties of flowers and shrubs that I was totally unfamiliar with. Great textures, combinations and a small section dedicated to vegetables. A beautiful lilly pond and water feature centrally placed making the whole space absolutely stunning, definitely one of my favourite gardens I have visited.

We had a flying display of owls and then later on of birds of prey and the information provided was quite fun and engaging. There are some other small animal enclosures which children will love. Plenty of space to eat, kids to run about and explore.

We had a tasty lunch. Had seen a review about it being overpriced but I can honestly say I thought it was very appropriate for the portion size which was very generous and carrot cake was yummy.

Not used to writing such a lengthy review but as a couple on a cold wet day, it really was so enjoyable. Hats off to the head...
