The food is delicious. Really well cooked & even some produce from the garden, according to the gardener we chatted to (we are keen cooks/growers, so we don’t often rate other people’s cooking highly!) We went for lunch one day whilst we were on holiday, after visiting the gorgeous gardens, and we liked the lunch menu so much that we booked to come back on our last night for the Tapas evening. Service when busy is a bit slow, yes, but friendly and worth the wait. For lunch we had various quiches and things served with a smorgasbord of different salads- all perfectly flavoured. The tapas were all delicious too (menu changes each time apparently- attached) - I’d recommend 1.5-2 tapas per person. They allow dogs into the rear part of the restaurant via the back doors, which suited us as we were travelling with 2 elderly hounds. You can only get into the restaurant if you pay to go in the gardens except on pre booked tapas evening when it seemed like you could have a little wander in the flowers after eating for free- or at least nobody shouted at us anyway 🤣 Recommended.

What a wonderful place Maria has created at Picton Castle! We spent a week at Picton (staying in one of the two 'Gatehouse apartments!) in June 2025 and our time at Maria's was one of the highlights! We had several meals here during our stay! Maria has been running this cafe for more than 40 years (and even had the opportunity to serve lunch to Queen Elizabeth in the castle many years ago!). Her cafe offers delicious Spanish oriented food along with a wonderful selection of wines. Her menu varies slightly from day to day and is served along side of delicious salads. She also offers a large selection of cakes, pies, scones and other treats in addition to Ice Cream! The staff at Maria's is wonderful, friendly and very attentive. It's clear that they all enjoy working for Maria. Maria is also a very warm and wonderful lady eager to ensure that her guest have a great experience. Whether you are enjoying a Meal, Pastries or just a beverage (she also offers sodas and beer; you will not be disappointed!,

Such a friendly welcome at the gate and in the owl area. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, answering any questions guests asked. The grounds are a lovely place to explore and with the maze and children play area younger visitors are also entertained. Dogs are welcome in the grounds, but not in the owl area or on the castle tour. There is a so called "doggy day care area" near the owl area but this could be vastly improved but on saying that I would still highly recommend this castle for a day out.

Just visited this little taste of heaven! What a delightful surprise to find such exceptional food in the castle grounds. Maria and her team have created a Spanish haven and combined traditional lunch fare alongside spanish tapas. The homemade quiche was delicious and the chocolate banana slice or cherry roulade were not to be missed. The finest ingredients such as white tuna delight the tastebuds. Do yourself a massive favour and stop off here. The castle and grounds are also worth a visit so its an ideal place to have lunch. Better still we noticed Maria runs evening tapas nights that her team say are fun and super popular. Best food we have had since we arrived last week! Thanks...
