Visited Chesters Roman site (second time) but decided to take some extra time to visit the Roman Bridge abutment that are visible on the other side of the River from Chesters. If you are driving, come out of Chesters, turn right, turn left at the roundabout just up the road. On the left, about 100m, you can park in a lay-by. From here, walk back to the roundabout. Go over the road bridge straight in front of you. As you get to the other side, there is a gate on the right side. Go through the gate and follow the easy path/cinder track for about 5 minutes. There is an information board when you reach the site and are looking down towards it. The lower foundation stones are in great condition and look like they have only been there a matter of decades, never mind almost 2000 years! It's free entry so if you are interested in Roman history and visiting Chesters it's...

You can always park up along the road near the roundabout and walk across the modern bridge to the hiking path on the south side of the river It's an easy, mostly flat, mile walk to the site. Well worth the effort. Roman engineering is stunning, and both the original wall structure as well as the expanded cargo addition later are stunning. This was all almost 2000 ago!...
