Beautiful views along the coast line with Severn Sisters to the west & Beachy Head to the east. Took the open air Explorer bus from Eastbourne band stand, with interesting commentary of key places en route. For £10 all day hop on hop off ticket, an excellent way to visit a number of key sites around Eastbourne. Birling Gap is a fascinating accessible part of the South Downs, from where you can walk across the downs, or just sit & relax, watch the ponies grazing, the birds, butterflies & varied flora of the chalky landscape. An excellent National Trust cafe, gift shop, & visitor centre - friendly staff, excellent coffee & usual cakes etc. NT pay & display car park. Explorer bus runs past every 30 mins, so soon back to Eastborne, & an opportunity to view the town as we descended...

At Birling Gap, the chalk cliffs between the Seven Sisters to the West (probably the most attractive section of the Southeast coast) and Beachy Head to the East (the highest of the chalk cliffs) dip to about ten metres above sea level. Above the cliffs, there is a National Trust café with a large car park. A staircase leads down to the pebbly beach underneath the chalk cliffs, which is a rather wild and wonderful place. From there you can see into a long stretch of the Seven Sisters from below.

If you wish, you can also go for a walk on the cliffs, in either direction. Birling Gap can also easily - and frequently - be reached by bus, either from nearby Eastbourne or from Brighton, along the scenic coastal route. I thoroughly recommend a stop-over there if you happen to be...

The Birling Gap car park near Eastbourne is a convenient spot for exploring this stunning area of coastline. During summer months, it fills up quickly, so I'd recommend arriving early to secure a space. There's plenty of capacity overall, but timing is key for a stress-free visit. The location is perfect as a base for exploring several beautiful attractions nearby. The Seven Sisters cliffs offer spectacular hiking paths along the sea with breathtaking views. The nearby lighthouse is definitely worth a visit, and the Birling beaches are perfect for a relaxing day by the water. After your adventures, you can refuel at the café close to the car park. It's an ideal spot to grab refreshments before or...

Part of the South Downs National Park in East Sussex in southeast England, the Seven Sisters are a series of whitish cliffs being gradually eroded by the sea. It’s worth a drive from anywhere to view and walk along the beach under the watchful white gaze of the chalky Sisters facing the English Channel. We came on a cool and breezy early autumn day with the sun lighting up the cliffs brilliantly. The National Trust runs the car park, cafe, gift shop and toilets so you have every convenience at hand for a few hours of communion with glorious nature along the English coast.
