This is a favourite dog walk for me. Parking at the free wickham station car park there are several great walks. If the weather has been wet go right along the old railway line because the camber on the track and the gravel laid down ensures this walk is dry underfoot. You will pass over the river meon and out of the village, through wickham golf course then a beautiful vineyard to your right. There you will find a low wooden fence there to stop the horses on the bridal path from going any further. It doesn't need to stop you as the walk has a lot more to offer. From here you are in country side proper its quiet apart from the bird song. The only downside to this walk is when you get to the wire fence where the track meets the mainline railway you have to turn around and walk back the way you came. No great hardship as it's a beautiful peaceful place to be.. There are several other fantastic walks from this car park. By turning left the track is much wider and busier. Also shared by cyclists and more popular with families. But if you walk up until the railway crosses the river and go down the bank on the right you can get back to the car park be following the river meon a beautiful ancient chalk stream with crystal clear water. Coming back this way there are a couple of paths that will get you back to the trail but if you want to find your way all the way back along the river turn right when you get to a sharp turn in the river this is where you start up the bank then follow the edge of the field right and vola you are back where you started from. This walk can also be done in reverse. Just from the car park cross the trail you will see the paths and keep left. Hint really keep left so you are walking along the side of the field. Don't be in a rush to get to the river or you will just find yourself backtracking out ...

Beautiful old railway route let down by the seemingly hundreds of thousands of people who all think it's a great idea to take their family's on a cycle ride to that specific location rather than thinking slightly more creatively about cycling spots. Having said this; I suppose it's a safe route if you enjoy swerving round the elderly and slamming into the hundreds of dogs off their leads and having to avoid other cyclists hurtling at you in the other direction. Also a let down is the lack of access to the river from signs screaming "PRIVATE FISHING" Despite there never being anyone ever there actually fishing. Wickham and the surrounding countryside is beautiful though. Just never ever go on a weekend, especially a Sunday the market village quickly becomes Glastonbury but without the music and with cars...

The neon valley trail is a disused railway line, and is now turned into a trail for walking and cycling. You can get to it by entering the old station car park in the lovely quaint old town of Wickham near Fareham in Hampshire which is free to use and there is a Mer electric chargeing point for those like me who drives an electric vehicle. The Neon river runs along this walk lower down in the woodland. There is a weir which has been constructed for kids and dogs to splash around in which is shallow and a seating area for parents/dog owners can sit and watch. Our two Jack Russell's loved playing in the water. There are several information boards on the trail explaining the history of the old railway line.you can use this trail in...

A lovely walk and cycle path, especially when dry. I recommend waterproof boots or wellies when there has been a considerable amount of rain as the path near the car park gets waterlogged and further up the path turns into a mini stream with run off water. But a little rain never harmed anyone as they say! A leisurely family cycle ride is best left for drier months, unless the dirt doesn't put you off, in which case crack on with your 29er mountain bike Haha! It's a dog friendly trial but it's worth pointing out there is access to roads and private gardens, plus it's a popular path for other dog walkers - so maybe best left for dogs that respond when off lead and are friendly with other dogs.

My Experience on the Meon Valley Trail Wow, what an incredible experience the Meon Valley Trail offers! I truly enjoy running on this scenic route, covering 12 to 15 kilometers daily. The trail’s natural beauty, with its lush surroundings and vibrant birdlife, creates such a positive and energizing atmosphere. It’s not just a run; it’s a rejuvenating escape. The serene environment motivates me to push myself further, and I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my speed and endurance. Every step along this trail feels refreshing, and it’s become an essential part of my routine. The combination of beautiful landscapes and uplifting vibes makes this trail a runner’s paradise.

This is a 10 mile very flat walk or cycle ride along the old train line. At both ends - West Meon and Wickham - there are clear signs about the path. It’s a little repetitive and you do not get to see a lot of the beautiful countryside along the pathway because of the woodland either side. Very sheltered at parts and benches near the West Meon end. You can leave the path at multiple points to stop at pubs/cafes along the way. I would recommend The White Lion Inn about half way along. Great food and drink options, with lovely staff.
