Bidston Windmill stands proudly atop Bidston Hill, offering breathtaking views of the Mersey River and Liverpool. The ascent to the summit is well worth the effort, and sturdy footwear is recommended, especially on wet days when the ground can become muddy. Bidston Hill is a popular spot for dog walkers, and its seclusion makes it a haven for local wildlife. Unfortunately, as with many natural areas near urban centers, vandalism is a concern, particularly during the summer months when bushfires pose a threat. Immerse yourself in the rich history of Bidston Hill, where an ancient Viking sun god's location is said to have been, the Normandy D-Day tides were calculated at the maritime observatory, and the day of invasion was determined. And don't miss the opportunity to explore the Bidston Windmill, which opens to visitors on select dates. Consulte with the local council for current opening hours and arrangements.

Lovely little walk, we did it with a 6 and 2 year old. We walked from the car park up through the woodland, to the windmill and on to the observatory. Once at the observatory, we double backed the way we came because the kids wanted to see the windmill and bridges again. On the walk you can see Lovely views of North wales and across the other direction looking at Liverpool. The walk took about 45 mins each way, and that allowed time for puddle jumping and snack stops. I pram could be taken, but only if it had larger wheels like the ones that are designed for offroad type activities. If you have a baby or toddler, I can't recommend the carry style backpacks enough especially for longer walks.

If you're visiting Bidston Hill, it's well worth making it up to the top to see this, the observatory, the little old lighthouse, and if you're able to spot them nearby, the ancient rock carvings, too! You'll also get an interesting view of both Liverpool and Birkenhead in one direction, and sea in the other direction, at a point around half way between the windmill and the lighthouse. There's tons of parking available for the hill, most of which will leave you right next to the Tam O'Shanter farm too, which you might want to visit if anyone you're with would enjoy a petting zoo!

Have been going to Bidston Hill for over 65 years as a child to adult with children and grandchildren it has always been a lovely place to visit. Has changed a lot since I was a child there used to be a water fountain where you could get a refreshing ice cold drink in the summer.and little shop on the path on the way up where you could buy a homemade penny lolly ice. The views were more extensive when I was a child as the woods were managed by a woodsman who lived on the hill but it is still a lovely place . My dogs used to love going there to meet their friends and have a run on the car park meadow. Don't have dogs any more but still go for walks in all seasons. Visit the Tam O'Shanter for a coffee and a look around the farm. Sometimes see old friends with their dogs. Love watching the bats in the summer evenings and sometimes a fox. We have seen buzzards, kestrels, jays, green woodpeckers, tree creepers and the usual woodland birds. Swifts and swallows in the summer feeding on the insects. Yes it's a lovely place to be. We are very lucky to...

It is going to be one of the reviews I won’t attached a picture due to watching the uneven stone road surface with lots of potential hazards for little kids and water ponds where they get shoes wet. During my walking after a school day there were two little ones tripped over. Personally I enjoy the place a lot and would recommend adults for hiking. If you take little one like me do please pay extra attention not only to the stone road surface but also the plants with spike leaves. There is a lovely farm near the entrance where you can take little one to see various animals like goat, chicken, pig etc and there is a small playing area as well. If you feel like to you can make donation as the farm is run by volunteers (I have...
