I had an excellent time with Nigel and his Hawk, Cassius. The walk was a short distance so nothing strenuous; to the end of a field then into some woodland; but this gives a great opportunity for Cassius to fly off, take perch in trees along one side of the field, then come back on Nigel's command. This happens many times over as throughout this Nigel explains about the hunting techniques and biology of the hawk, how it is deciding what to do, and it's flight technique. The whole group gets involved in having the bird land on them, and my eight year old niece and nephew enjoyed the experience. This experience is great for children; as long as they can follow instructions about when to raise their arms or keep their arms down, otherwise they may have a hawk try and land on their arm unexpectedly!
