If you're thinking about holding a wedding here think again. Although it is a beautiful location and the ambiance is ideal, the contract terms are difficult and the staff is horrible beyond belief.
Concerning the contract - You can not get in to decorate until 4:30pm and you have to clean up and be out by 10:00pm. All the event coordinator did was nag nag nag about setting up and hurrying the reception to clean up - talk about sucking the joy out of the day. There's no running water, aside from the restrooms, and no kitchen so catering is challenging. I have planned and hosted many events in my career and I can honestly say this was the most difficult venue I have ever dealt with. For $800 spent, I would've gone with the History Center instead, it is half the price and you get it all day.
Staff - This is the biggest turn off for me and the cause of my regret. It is one thing to be rude and snobbish behind the curtain, but it is an entirely different ballgame when you have multiple GUESTS complain to you about how rude the coordinator was to them at the event! I was so embarrassed. They kept asking me "Who is that cranky lady? Why is she here?" I found it unprofessional that she had to be so involved in the event yet so unhelpful. All of my photos have her in the background crossing her arms like a curmudgeon little gnome. I had to spend hours trying to Photoshop her surly mug out of my pics and some could not be saved. The other gentleman she had on staff was more polite and helpful but completely indifferent. A guest overheard him on his cell phone complaining as the ceremony was beginning that he couldn't take his car to the mechanic because he forgot he had a wedding to manage He did redeem himself by taking us to the forbidden organ to get private photos though. Overall, everyone was uncomfortable by their presence. They were unresponsive during the planning phase leading up to the wedding as well. Correspondence went unanswered or got pushed off and things they said they would do, they didn't.
I only gave it three stars because the venue is gorgeous and I love music. If it had been based on the administration itself, they would've been lucky to get one...
Read moreA big surprise! This place didn't seem like it was going to be more than a 20 minute walk through and done type of thing. Boy were we wrong! This place is awesome! And the people who work there are amazing. They should be cloned. If everyone could hire employees as dedicated as these we would have a very different world. Okay so now I will try to explain what this place is like. Fair warning I can't even come close to doing it justice. It's filled with all kinds of music "machines" and gagets having to do with music. From incredible small to huge and old to new. Examples are, this tiny little bird in a little cage that "sings" and the technology behind it is fascinating, not to mention you wont believe how real it looks and moves and sounds, to this huge pipe organ that you have to see an hear to believe to a one of a kind player piano that plays a duet both parts played by a very famous person (I wont spoil it by telling you who) . The treasures in this place and the stories behind them are fascinating! We spent the entire afternoon there and plan on going back on our next visit to the area. The people who work there are a wealth of knowledge and so enthusiastic you don't want to leave because you get caught up in their stories about each item they speak about. I know it's always growing and changing to some degree but I think even if it didnt it would take at least a week or two to trully get the story of each item in there. And many things are able to be purchased ! Okay so not every item can be purchased and some that can, can be are a bit pricey but not all are out of reach...they even sell some really cute little music boxes and jewelry boxes that are very affordable. They survive by donations and I certainly hope they survive for ever. If you love music and even if you don't and just love to see how somethings works this is a place for you!!!! I'm so glad someone recommended this to us. An absolute...
Read more10 out of 10 would recommend! It surpassed our expectations of just being a kitschy roadside tourist trap. The Music House Museum even had my non-musical husband riveted buy the craftsmanship and engineering behind these amazing pieces. How the instruments worked was just as interesting as the music they could play. The collection is really well-done, the tour guides friendly and knowledgeable, and it is very kid-friendly (however those with sensitive ears will benefit from hearing protection, these things only have one volume it seems). My musical teen son loved it, and even asked more questions after the tour, so the tour guide took him back through to show him a few more details to answer his question. The tour is basically four areas of the building, and there are stairs, but the stairs are not necessary to the tour they are just for getting a better view of a few pieces. The stairs won't hinder anyone with mobility needs from enjoying the tour. The gift shop is a bit sparse, but I think that's the aftermath of the pandemic shutdowns and every business essentially rebuilding. The gift/souvenir selection they do have available includes some very nice items, something for everyone,...
