We came to the Country Hermitage on our honeymoon (14 years ago), and returned for a couple of nights of reconnection and to celebrate our anniversary. Although we couldn't book the Pulcifer Room again, the Morrison Room was equally comfortable. Aveda toiletries are still offered for bathing (which I loved from the first experience). The cherry orchard and fishing pond are constants, as is the quality of the experience here.
The Innkeepers are different but still extraordinary. Misty & Eric have brought in elements of their personalities and experiences, updated some of the amenities/offerings, and deliver an exceptional experience. Freshly baked cookies were presented just inside the entrance from the porch, and at check in they asked about any dietary restrictions and made note to accommodate them in the breakfast offerings.
Among the changes are a kitchenette for guest use, complete with a fridge (with a marker if you have leftovers to label) that they have stocked with locally produced craft beers and white wines for guests to enjoy. There are also red wines available. The kitchenette has a microwave for guest use too. Just outside the kitchenette is a beverage station, with an electric kettle, tea assortment, hot chocolate, mugs on a warming tray, and coffee service in the morning. I spied a French press there as well, so I know I could make some coffee other than in the morning if I chose to do so.
At breakfast, Misty shared the local coffee roaster from whom they purchase the coffee served, and explained that company's commitment to reducing waste. It is clear Misty & Eric are committed to the same - with tags on doors for guests to request "stay over service" (towels, toiletries, light housekeeping) or opt out to conserve resources, glass cups in the room and kitchenette rather than disposable ones, and locally sourced ingredients used to make breakfast.
The breakfast offerings (two courses) are immensely enjoyable! Visually pleasing in the presentation as well as delectable to the palate, my day started well with the nourishment at the table [as well as enjoyable conversations with our interesting fellow guests]. Who knew that something as basic as yogurt and fruit (a first course offering this weekend) could be so elegant and inviting?!
Misty & Eric had great suggestions for additional dining experiences in the area (our favorite was The Franklin) as well as other suggestions for activities (either shared personally, if you asked, or presented in magazines featuring area attractions, should you prefer less interaction). The Country Hermitage retains its historic charms while meeting the needs of individuals in modern times and engaging sustainable practices for the future. I look forward to...

Read moreTraveled from Texas to Traverse City and stayed two nights with Misty and Erik at Country Hermitage Bed and Breakfast before heading to the Upper Peninsula. This is a hidden gem for sure! We loved our stay and will be back. Misty was so gracious and is the perfect host. We stayed in the Kesner room and had a beautiful view of the Cherry Orchards. For and old farm house, our room was amazing having been newly renovated and very clean. We even had great WiFi and Hulu live available on the a smart TV. We loved the robes placed in our room, as they were great to snuggle while having evening tea or morning coffee. In the mornings, coffee and pastries are available while Erik prepares a wonderful gourmet three course breakfast. Absolutely one of the best parts of our stay. Erik also gave us great tips and information on local wineries, events and places of interest. He has a huge map on the wall near the kitchen where he helped us plot our days and adventures over coffee. Another favorite was the lemon lavender cookies left out for us to snack on during our stay. Misty even sent us on our way with a bag of them and coffee. Erik and Misty we loved our stay and can't say enough. Thank you! Roger & Diana...
