Love this park, staff is great, sites are nice and spacious and there is plenty of shade. Facilities are clean and air conditioned. Beach area is very clean and there is plenty of room to enjoy it with out being cramped. I am giving 5 stars based on my experience with an emergency situation that occurred while camping here. My 13 year old boy and his two buddies were trail riding and were stung multiple times by wasp (50+ times on one child) limited cell service in the area so they dialed 911, the park ranger and other staff set off to try and find them, some by boat. Once they were located we were found and told where to meet emergency personnel that were treating them. Everyone was okay, although miserable for the rest of the day. The boys bikes were left near the hive in the woods and after several attempts Ranger Caton retrieved them and delivered them to our campsite. After all of this I am very grateful for the urgency, care and continued concern demonstrated by the Ranger, park staff and local emergency departments. I do hope the park adds some type of ATV in the event of another emergency that requires locating someone on the trails. We were lucky this time that the one child that has a sting allergy was not stung and didn't need to be extracted. Thank you for all...

I love the area. It's beautiful and has nice camping places and a nice swimming hole. However, they need better places to park at the camping posts. A family member had a camper set up at one of the slots. I went to visit, and parked in what appeared to be a couple of parking spots right behind the camper. After a while, a park ranger told me I couldn't park there? Even though they clearly looked like parking spaces. I left very shortly after that. A few days later, I made a return visit. I did not park in the same spots since they weren't for the public, apparently. I parked off the side of the pavement beside some railing. I was sure I parked so that anyone passing by could maneuver past the car. The park ranger drove by again and said I couldn't park there either! The only two spaces beside the camper I could park was taken by my family member's vehicles. Where the crap do they expect people to park if there's only enough room for two cars and apparently every where else is off limits? They need to be more lenient with the parking or get more spaces where people...

I agree the park is beautiful, during the day. At night the place is very creepy. Very dark. Not enough lighting so there for everyone goes in at dark and it's eerily quiet. The grounds are not kept up. Very thick with either pine straw or leaves at camp sites. So it's very buggy. We pulled a total of 24 tic's off of us and our puppy. That was within the first 48 hours of being there so after that we did not go out unless we were going swimming or into town. Had to keep our dog in the rest of the stay. We also encountered a bed of cotton mouth snakes at one of the public picnic/pavilion areas. We informed the park staff but they were not concerned. My biggest concern was that you get NO cell phone service in the park so if someone gets snake bit or hurt you can't even call for help. I say all of this out of frustration because we have camped at nearly all the state parks in Alabama and none of them are as unkept as this one. We will not ever camp here again and I hope this review will either encourage the park staff to change things or it will discourage others from...

We arrived at the booth, we had 2 senior citizens in the front and one in the back along with my wife had myself, a total of 5. The young lady asked us how many were in the car and of course we replied 5 and she said $25. We asked for a receipt and she just looked at us and when we asked again she said in a negative tone that she (the other person in the booth) was printing it. We found out at our function that the entry charge for seniors is $2. My wife and I walked to the booth and encountered a woman who said that she was the manager, and basically told us that we didn't mention that we had seniors in the vehicle (although 2 of the 3 were in the front seats) and it was our fault and there are no refunds. There are no posted signs with breakdown of fees for adults, children and seniors. I asked for management, she told me to come back on Monday, I told her that we were attending a family reunion and on Monday we'd be back home in California. She gave me a number to call on Monday which was different from the posted number. We were there on 7/30/22.

Pretty decent campground. Our site (D77) was pretty nice with a fairly level but narrow pad. some sites have full hookups, but ours was water/electric only. Several other sites looked like they could use some TLC. There were lots of well marked and mapped hiking/biking trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, and a swim beach. Our biggest complaint was the price. In an effort to capitalize on their proximity to the University of Alabama, they jack the prices through the roof on GameDay weekends. After taxes and fees, our spot was nearly $90/night on Friday and Saturday. Our fault for not checking first, but it seems like the locals know. The park was empty except for the campers that have seasonal GameDay passes, and the weather was perfect for camping. We will make sure to check the football calendar before we plan another trip here.
