There are several trails accessible from this trailhead, but the most traveled is the Flattop Mountain trail. Most of the trail is well marked and generally wide (though it can be steep in places) making it not particularly difficult if one takes their time. However after the second saddle the trail becomes very steep over rocks and boulders, and it narrows and splits into several paths which twist onto each other unpredictably, and some dead-end, making it a much more tricky assent to the summit. There are several lookouts and vantage points along the way offering wonderful views of Anchorage and Cook Inlet, so it is not a wasted hike if one doesn't make it all the way to the top. The biggest drawback of this trail is how popular and crowded it is. While it's conveniently located just outside of Anchorage, there's Arctic Valley to the north, and Bird Ridge and the Turnagain trails to the south, each about 10 minutes out of town that offer equally wonderful hikes with...

Me and the dogs went for a hike today. They were on leash most of the time as we didn't stray too far from the power line trail.

It was a beautiful day out there. Lots of trees and running water 💧. Tons of people out there on Sunday July 3rd weekend of 2022.

If ya wantnto get a full view of the Anchorage Bowl then head to this location. So many trails to take.

I got a picture of fort rich all of the way to turnagain arm south Anchorage. I could see my house from there almost.

Please view the images that inhave attached for your convenience.

BE CAREFUL UP THERE. The drive up is a little hairy but not too bad. Just watch for people trying to get out of their driveways. I imagine it is hell up there in the winter when it's icy.

It helps my Google Guide score.

Thanks...

A staple of Anchorage tourism, you simply have to try it once. It’s not as difficult as some others in the region but it’s not just a walk in the park either. There are quite a few places that are steep for a while. I recommend wearing sturdy shoes and bringing at least a liter of water for every person, because it will be gone at the top. Stop at the flat parts and take a moment to enjoy the scenery, because unless you’re in great shape, you will struggle. The top is flat, just like its name, and there are plenty of places to take pictures and rest along the way. The climb up will take the average person about 2.5 hours, and about an hour for the climb down. This could be a half day adventure but you probably won’t want to do...

You cannot beat this beauty... Rain or shine this is a wonderful place to go for a hike or to get away from the city, but to still be able to oversee it... Has multiple trail systems, with different terrain types. It's best to always travel as a group, but still fine to travel alone, if you take the proper safety precautions, there are bears and other types of wildlife that call this area home, so its good to always be mindful of this! There could not be enough words to describe how great it is to be up here, so you be your own judge and enjoy the outdoors.

This place has many options for hikers. When going to Alaska I was looking for a more dificult trail for a beginner. We ended up taking a path to the first mountain. Towards the end of the path, things began to be a bit more difficult. After the first mountain we continued to the next mountain ( I believe was flat top) adjacent to the one we just climbed. That mountain was exactly what I was looking for and wanted to do in Alaska. The trail was definitely more dificult for a beginner and involved a bit of free climbing. Also the views were amazing!
