Kincade park was wonderful, abuts right against Anchorage which makes it readily accessible. Once you enter the park you have access to several paths, some paved and some narrow dirt paths. At first we did one of the paved paths, and found it to be very nice and well traveled. Then we ventured off the so called beaten path, and that is when we saw the absolute beauty of what a pristine forest is all about!. Thick and dense lush vegetation was everywhere, I felt like I was instantly transported to a time and place untouched by man. Absolute silence, except for the sound of our steps, never bothered by mosquitoes or for that matter any other creepy crawler. We were hiking for about 30-45 minutes on this narrow dirt path when we came face to face with two rather large moose, we saw them first as they were walking, more like bulldozing, thru the vegetation towards us so we froze in place! Luckily they weren’t following our path but making one of their own, but they finally did see us at about 20 yards away ,and just looked at us for a few LONG seconds. Well I guess they decided we didn’t pose a threat and just sauntered off into the thick vegetation and quickly disappeared. That experience was worth the price of admission, and no there is no cost to enter the park. Highly recommend a visit to this park if you...

This little spot is just behind the airport, but has a billion dollar view! The road that winds past some beautiful woods is also park of the bike path, so you can bike, run, hike, or drive here to check it out. The place is actually on a cliff that overlooks the earthquake zone...if you check out a topo map, you'll see the wrinkles there. Now since the quake was awhile ago, it just seems like a small rocky beach below a Cliffside parking area. You can walk a graded path to the beach for a stroll or to skip stones if you like. I'm a photographer, so of course I was captured by the view. You can see for miles and it looks like Denali is just across the spit from where you're standing. Amazing! I visited this spot several times while I was in town, it's just a couple minutes from downtown and a nice quiet place to reflect on the beauty of Alaska. Check it out when you visit, for sure!😀
