A local small zoo that has history and charm. This isn't like your bigger zoos so do not expect that flashy things and endless trails. This isn't a high traffic zoo which is good because the zoo keepers and staff will have more time to talk to you individually and offer some great information.
There are also things here that you can do you can not do at other zoos like feed a riho, tortoise and feed alligators.
There was a consestion stand but it wasn't open. This place does need some work but remember they do not get the high dollars from state, federal, and large cities that other places do. The entry price is very low and for a family of 8 , like us, it was reasonable enough for us to visit a couple times a year. There are several places to go outside the the zoo to eat that are a short drive away.
It's worth the visit and worth the trip.
Also, if you can afford it, please consider donating a few extra dollars to help the save up to get more animals and repairs. If you have free time I believe they have volunteering options for...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time here! The animals actually look happy and like they haven’t given up on life like at our local zoo. The gators have a wonderful huge exhibit that looks very natural. All the animals look healthy and happy. I’m big on ethical zoos and this one really seems to be doing a good job. Currently not AZA accredited due to what I hear is mostly funding problems but they are still operating as if they are AZA and holding a high standard of care. The cheeseburgers at the food stand were delicious! Some of the walkways are in need of maintenance so watch your step in some areas. A nice selection of cool animals all of which seem to have plenty of natural looking habitat to roam. And staff were happy to answer our questions and seemed very content in their jobs. The local keepers by us all seem miserable like the animals. Overall this was a delightful couple hours with pretty foliage and...

The alligator area was also so cool to visit. I loved their reptile house, such fascinating creatures. My three year old daughter had a wonderful time as well as us adults. Would definitely...
