Lower Falls — Attraction in Albany

Our favorite swimming hole. Cold clean water. Rocks to climb on, CAREFULLY. When water is high enough you can float a little ways in the river. Then make your way down past the falls to the swimming hole. There is a current here, watch the little ones, or the Crocs that slip off your feet. Barely saved my Crocs.

Pay your $5 fee at the parking lot, good for the day. A parking spot may be hard to find on a hot summer's day. Carry in, carry out. No amenities. Can change in restrooms, which are not the best on a hot day. There is a path to an overlook of the swimming hole, but that is it. Need to be able to make your way down some uneven steps to the water. I've never encountered a Ranger there, but there is an office.

This is what most would call a primitive site, but is it very close to the road. We pack sandwiches and our own drinks. Enjoy several hours cooling off in the water and sunning on the rocks.

Reminder again about the rocks: assume that all that are under water are slippery! Those out off the water will be slippery when they get wet. In our younger years I broke my thumb and my wife her big toe. Still love the place, but I no longer climb on the rocks. Today our twelve year old niece banged both shins pretty badly. She thought it was was the end of the world but some cowboy up advice from uncle and we helped her limp back to the van. By the time we got home she had a miraculous recovery when she wanted to run with the rest of the kids. We were blessed. I imagine there must be some every year that need real rescue there. We love this place excellent place to go and relax near a river bring a picnic basket and enjoy the day. It's right next to the parking lot no walking required cross over the path and the river is right there. Plenty of large rocks to lay out in the sun eat your sandwich flat areas to sit. Usually a bunch of people are around doing the same so it won't be quiet as this is a very popular spot. But it's a great place for the kids there are little pools of water that you can play in whether it's high water or low water you can always find a spot. But keep an eye on your kids especially if it is high water as the water can be fast moving on certain days and in certain areas. If you're an adult or have teenage kids they will have fun in the Russian moving water you can use it like a natural water slide. Near the bottom there is a big pond where the waterfall stops and pulls up you can swim across and sit under the waterfall or just swim AZ water pools and then turns into a river on the bottom side again. They have added recently a boardwalk that allows you to walk up to the end over near where the water pools to watch the views. And the views are excellent mountains trees on a great day it's just fantastic to sit in the sun with the water rushing by looking at the mountains and the clouds a perfect day outside. The only downside would be if you are looking for something very quiet and out of the way by yourself this is not the place there are always people here enjoying it but it's very large and long so you won't bump into people but there will be people you...

This is a beautiful scenic pull off that you're allowed with a donation of $5 per car that you put in an envelope and pay in a locked box you're allowed to go and swim in the falls or just put your feet in and enjoy the scenery around you. It is a shared space so you could be swimming with people that are trying to fly fish so just be aware and maybe ask them to go downstream away from people which would be nice there's picnic in areas there is a bathhouse which is really really dirty and smelly because it's just like a composting toilet maybe I don't know but it was really offensive walking in there. That was a good place for a stick up air freshener LOL like a hundred of them. But the kangamangus what a beautiful gift from God above just stunning. I hope someday I get to witness a moose crossing I haven't seen one there but I've seen one of Nashua New Hampshire figure that one out enjoy yourself take out the trash that you bring in and if you see anything laying around and somebody else left it there don't just look down then look away pick it up and take it with you please so everyone can join God's beauty.
