Rutherfurd Hall is an amazing cultural center with an amazing historical story. This tutor-style house was designed by Whitney Warren, who later won the bid to design Grand Central Terminal. The landscape of the grounds were also designed by the Olmsted Brothers who became famous for designing/landscaping many of today's national parks. The Rutherfurd family lived here as early as the mid-eighteenth century, and over their families time here hosted many famous titans of industry and even future American presidents. There's a really fun/interesting story about FDR and Alice Morton. Later, Rutherfurd Hall was donated to the church and used as a type of retirement home for the nuns. Rutherfurd Hall is now owned by the Allamuchy School District who does a great job utilizing it to maintain this beautiful structure. If you go on a Wednesday, you'll be able to receive a tour through the beautiful home. Their tour guides are absolutely fantastic and know so much of the history so thoroughly it is really impressive. Rutherfurd Hall does weddings on it's own, but a local venue David's Country Inn also holds wedding ceremonies on the grounds. I'll be having my ceremony at Rutherfurd Hall and could not be more excited!

🎬 Rutherfurd Hall at 1686 County Rd 517 in Hackettstown, NJ, is an 18,000-square-foot Tudor Revival mansion and National Historic Landmark, built between 1903 and 1905. This elegant country estate and its picturesque grounds are an active cultural center and museum owned by the Allamuchy Township Board of Education. Beyond its public and educational role, Rutherfurd Hall is available through an active rental program for a variety of private events and productions. The scenic location on Allamuchy Pond make it an ideal and unique backdrop for film, television, and photo shoots seeking a historic, Gilded Age, or grand manor setting. It is actively featured as a filming location in New Jersey. ★★★★★

I was passing by while doing some leaf peeping and pulled into the parking lot. The grounds are lovely, and two years ago I attended a wedding at Rutherfurd Hall. I suggest you do an online search and read about the history of this building which FDR visited several times. The building is open only one afternoon per week, but the grounds are always open.

We can't say enough good things about our experience using Rutherfurd Hall for our wedding venue. Our event manager, Sarah Jones, was amazing! She worked with us through every step of the planning process and answered our hundreds of questions in a very timely, professional, and efficient manner (especially the last minute, month-of/week-of questions that I asked non-stop!). We live out of state and she was very accommodating (giving our parent's an in-person tour in our stead).

Sarah and Chris were so understanding and accommodating throughout the covid experience. They worked with us, rescheduling multiple times (June 2020 pushing to October 2020 and again to June 2021), they didn't charge us any extra fees, and they worked with us through those stressful times when planning a big party in a pandemic was so stressful and uncertain. They made us feel like they genuinely wanted us to have the wedding of our dreams, and we weren't just another customer.

The venue is positively stunning! We had our ceremony and reception at Rutherfurd Hall, both outdoors. The backdrop of the lake and trees for our ceremony was so beautiful. The tent on the grounds was set up so lovely and the historic hall in the background (and the guests were allowed to explore the hall as well, or take a break for the excitement in comfy couches) was also beautiful and the guests were all impressed! Some notes about the day-of: there was rain in the forecast and the staff was so amazing! We wanted our ceremony by the lake and they set up a room inside for the ceremony in case we wanted (or had-to) move it because of rain. They gave us both options and let us wait till last-minute to make our decision (so no pressure!). We decided to keep it outside, and the rain just held out for the duration of the ceremony! Cocktail hour, same thing. We were really excited to have everything outside as planned, and they made it happen! They moved cocktail hour under the tent and even though it started really pouring rain, everyone had a fantastic time (they even brought out big umbrellas for guests to use if they wanted to go into the hall to use the bathroom). The rain was really coming down, but the staff made everything perfect and the guests were comfortable under the tent (they put up and took down extra side panels on the tent to keep the rain out and let the breeze in when the rain stopped).

The food: the menu options were all great and there were plenty of options for everyone's taste. All our guests loved the food! And as the bride and groom, the staff was so amazing, making sure we had full glasses and plates of all the food brought to us (while taking pictures/etc.). The bartender was fantastic and there was never a long wait for our guests to refill their glasses.

The decorations: the staff was so helpful! The day before, they helped us unload two cars worth of decoration items and then they took it from there! Everything was set up just the way we wanted and looked perfect! Then at the end our special day, we were able to be sent-off (didn't have to break anything down), and they had everything back in boxes the next morning for us to just pick-up. They even grabbed the random items we left scattered about the place in the rush of getting ready/ taking hundreds of photos/ and quick touch-ups in the bathrooms and bridal/groom suites (like my sandals/makeup bag/ dress bags/ so on, which I had left scattered about in the bridal...

It is a very cool place. Although I wasn't there for the history, I was there for a wedding. They host weddings in the backyard overlooking the lake and it's a gorgeous location for it. After the wedding we were permitted to look around some of the rooms of the house and that was great because you can see and feel some of the history. This house has been visited by many notable figures including I believe FDR.

Also, a little shout out to Nick who seemed to be a maintenance guy or someone who runs the facilities there. Throughout the course of the wedding, he was very friendly and very kind and helped us with countless random things. He went above and beyond in a lot of ways and I was impressed with the dedication and...
