My family and I have been going to Wild Mountain waterpark for I don't know how long. The way it has been set up in the past is the place would be open around 9 in the morning and would stay open to almost 8 in the evening. I have had season passes there before and like to go snow tubing there also. For us we would typically show up around 11 to noon and pay for the superday pass but just use the waterpark portion until about 6 in the evening when most other families would leave the place to go home. Then we would go on the alpine slide and go carts the rest of the evening. It was awesome because they had that crossover of families that you actually could take advantage of the very expensive superday pass that you payed for and actually use the unlimited passes. Now they are under new management and they want to save money or something because they changed the hours to 11 - 6. Which means that THERE IS NO CROSSOVER of families. Which means NO ONE IS COMING OR GOING. Which means EVERYONE IS STAYING TO CLOSE! If you pay for the superday pass you will be lucky to use it once or twice. Unlimited pass my a**. The lines are horrible. No one is going through the lines very fast. And as the place is closing so early the place never thines out. They actually shut down at 545. If you actually want a shot at the go carts and the alpine slides you have to do it right away because after that it is a heck of a long line to get on. The lines last about a HALF HOUR if not LONGER to wait. The chair lift for the alpine slide in the past they used to space it one family every 4 chairs. It is now one family every 5 cairs. (And you know some kid is going to go by himself which means it is one person for 10 chairs while everyone else is waiting). My wife showed up around 1:30 and paid for the superday pass and then realized her mistake knowing she would never be able to use the unlimited pass. And she never did have a chance to use that pass. In her words "It would have been better to just buy the waterpark pass". Which is what I wish I had done. In the past it was worth the ticket price, which is very expensive for a family of four. We spent almost 150 to 160 dollars at the place, because they were open longer which means there really was that crossover of families who could enjoy the superday pass. That doesn't exist. Instead it is a racket to get your money. If you are going I would suggest to only get the waterpark pass as that is the only thing worth it and the only thing you actually will be able to do. Save your money. Don't let your kids make you think your experience will be different. It won't. If the hours remain the same and don't account for that crosspover so many families have enjoyed then I will have to just go to another place. That is too much money to spend without getting to actually use it. I have been ripped off by better institutions. Wait, I was just ripped off by Wild Mountain. But won't let that happen again. I have been going snow tubing there just as long and am almost afraid to see how they will change it this year. If it is as bad as the summer changes then I will go to Spirit mountain or Afton. That is saying something as I am only 15 minutes from...
Read moreNothing says summer fun for the family like a group of intoxicated people vomiting chunks as they enter the lazy river in the water park. After staff were made aware of the incident the fabulous management Saturday, otherwise known as Nathan, reluctantly and briefly spoke with the group and allowed them stay in the lazy river as unaware children circled around in vomit water. They were also allowed to continue to consume their alcohol beverages… Nice job Nathan, just killing’ it today man! We decided to leave the splash pad area with our kids, as did 2 other groups that witnessed the incident. On the way out of the splash pad area I stopped and chatted with Nathan, who informed me that they were aware of the incident, that they were monitoring the situation, and that the pool had chemicals to kill any contamination. Hmmm.. interesting… According to CDC guidelines contaminated water due to vomit or fecal incidents should be treated the same, and according to Minnesota Department of Health you were required to inform all guests that the pool would need to be closed so it could be disinfected. Nathan, since you decided to you get to call the shots and bypass the safety standard, we decided to go to a different area of the park and use the water slides with our kids, which about 20 minutes later the group of intoxicated individuals also decided to do. So, knowing there was the potential for the water slide water to now also be contaminated we decided it was time to depart. Nathan, again I gave you a chance to rectify the situation and again you informed me you were monitoring the situation and asked if my kids threw up should we have to leave the park. I refer you to re-examine the state established safety standards, and yes, I will say again as I believe many parents would "if my child is throwing up then this is not the place for them to be", which is also true for adults making poor choices and over indulging within the confines of the park. If management would like to contact me, I welcome you to do so. I'm hopeful that there is some re-education about safety standards and appropriate actions and responses to...
Read moreWhat's notable about Wild Mtn; it's probably one of the best locations for beginners and families near the Twin Cities for skiing and snowboarding, and while the terrain skews to the easier side, there are some runs that will provide enough thrill to satisfy more experienced riders in your group (see Bear and the Wall). Above all it's playful with rubs like Half Rabbit and (when conditions allow) the margins of runs are enough exploring for young riders to have some adventure. The lifties here are pretty rule-oriented, so know that you might get barked at if you don't take the appropriate side of the chair (bigger riders to the center) and if you're a twosome expect to have that bar between you and your partner. No biggie though unless you typically ride at a more laissez faire ski area where lifties may be less invested. There's a culture here you don't always find at other ski areas nearby. Staff are almost universally cordial and welcoming. Food offerings are good and not outrageous, and plenty of chalet spaces cater to those in a group who may not be skiing (the upstairs bar with fireplace and couches always seems super inviting). Overall the resort and it's four fixed grip lifts are close together so it's easy to stay more or less together. Definitely worth the trip if you're looking for a day trip with some good old outdoors fun...
