Rieman Garde๐ is located at 1407 University Blvd., right next to Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. It's a great place for relaxing family fun, and this place would make for a great first date. They have a refreshment area to sit, sip, and nibble on snacks. They also have some items for sale as souvenirs, but they can be pricey. An inside butterfly ๐ฆ garden is a favorite for many people. Programs and classes are available as well. The gardens themselves are beautiful. Trails and paths wind through the entire park, inviting you into a wonderland type environment. There always seems to be something going on, either a theme or a featured sculpture; things like that. During the winter, of course, it can be very slow. Right now, however, there's something very special going on: Winter Wonderscape!โ๏ธ It's a magical display of colors and lights๐ that are simply amazing. If you can walk the entire grounds, you will find awe-inspiring displays throughout. Put on your coat, hat, and gloves, then go explore the sights. The cold, fresh air will leave you refreshed, relaxed, and ready for a cup of hot chocolate!๐ต You are welcome to bring your own stroller, wheelchair, or motorized personal mobility scooter. Please visit their website and read "More Info & Tickets" section. There's plenty of free parking right on site. Due to the price of the tickets, I am only giving this a three star rating. If you can afford it, it will provide you with a five...
ย ย ย Read moreI make it a point to visit botanical centers big or small whenever I'm visiting an area. My boyfriend decided to bring me here for a date. Although expected to be somewhat limited, it still fell short of my expectations. He paid $24 for both of us which I found to be quite steep considering the lack of activity/stimulation.
The butterfly garden is beautiful as everyone has said. The rest of the gardens are not really worth the admission price. The plants in the conservatory are well-maintained though not so varied. Just the same plants over and over again. I feel like I saw tri-color stromanthes everywhere. I really value places that can showcase their ability to care for a variety of flora. Iowa is not limited to the plants they displayed, especially in a greenhouse.
The outside gardens are pretty dead considering the season. It was warm out but not worth walking around. Other than that, there was a banquet room, a gift shop, and a display showing the different stages of metamorphosis a butterfly/moth goes through. I do appreciate how serious they are about the safety of the butterflies. Brownie...

Beautiful sunny spring day and I dropped my wife and daughter off at the alumni center in lot A.
Saw the beautiful gardens on the drive up Beach and thought it would be great to walk through the garden and kill some time. So I walked along Beach looking for an entrance. Surely there would be a break in the fencing and l could stroll in.
Well, actually NO. Just an service entrance. So it kept on walking, and walking, and walking until I circumnavigated the Entire outside of the gardens looking longingly at the families strolling IN THE Garden.
Finally, finally finding the entrance at the Fooball stadium gates.
Too tired from my frustrated 25min power walk and needing to get back to the alumni center, I decided Not to go in.
What a shame. Putting up a few arrow sign directing pedestrians to entrance on Beach side of the gardens sure would have make my experience less...
