The amherst historical society is setting the bar high for making local history interesting and exciting. The annual taste of history event is an absolute blast to explore and experience. They bring in reenacting organizations for all kinds time periods and have a cooking competition for the public to try. They also have the hooverville event where you learn about the plight of the ww1 veterans during the great depression. This place is a really wonderful local gem.

I came on a Tuesday. My mom told about me about the village when I came to visit her from out of state. I enjoyed seeing the old buildings preserved and placed here in a village like setting. Though the buildings were closed, I could see the displays of furnishings and miscellaneous items through the windows. There were information stations with brief histories of the respective buildings. If you like history, this is a must see.

Taste of History was a fun weekend event that started 3 years ago and from what I've heard is just getting bigger each year. It is a free event and you get to try meals that would have been prepared during the time periods while learning ab bit about history. They have an original WWII German pow bunk house that was brought up from camp perry OH and much of the re-enactors items are also period original or replica.
