Nestled in the picturesque town of Anacortes, Washington Park stands as a true testament to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. As an avid nature enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of exploring this stunning park, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the lush forests to the breathtaking views of Rosario Strait and Burrows Island, Washington Park is an absolute gem that should not be missed.
Upon entering the park, I was immediately struck by the peaceful ambiance that enveloped the area. The dense forest, with its towering trees and vibrant undergrowth, creates a serene and tranquil atmosphere. As I wandered along the well-maintained trails, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the natural beauty that surrounded me.
One of the highlights of Washington Park is the abundance of picnic spots scattered throughout the area. Whether you're looking for a cozy spot under the shade of a towering fir tree or a panoramic view of the strait, this park has it all. I found myself spoilt for choice, as each location seemed more inviting than the last. It's the perfect place to gather with friends and family, share a delicious meal, and create lasting memories.
Speaking of views, the vistas offered by Washington Park are simply breathtaking. The park's strategic location provides visitors with unobstructed panoramas of Rosario Strait and Burrows Island. I highly recommend making your way to the west, where you can witness the sun's golden rays painting the sky in a kaleidoscope of colors as it dips below the horizon. It's a sight that will leave you in awe and make you appreciate the beauty of nature.
In addition to its natural wonders, Washington Park offers a range of amenities to enhance your visit. Clean and well-maintained restrooms, ample parking facilities, and informative signage make navigating the park a breeze. The park's commitment to preserving its natural beauty is evident in the attention to detail and the care taken to ensure a pleasant experience for...
Read moreWashington Park is a beautiful area - the scenery is as good as it gets. The campground is in the interior of the park, though, so there are no views from any of the campsites, but you will be in a nice forest of tall trees - everything is well shaded, although in this climate, getting too hot is not ever a complaint.
The campground is a campground - not an RV park. A and C loop sites have electricity & water, but B loop has only a few shared water spigots and no electricity. The sites can be uneven, not all have good tent areas, and there isn't a lot of separation between sites. However, the bathrooms are clean, with flush toilets, and there are free hot showers in the main campground bathroom area. (There is a large bathroom at the campground exit, which also serves Sunset Beach day use area, that has pay showers.) There are several garbage & recycling cans throughout, but no sink water disposal for tent campers. (I took my sink wastewater to the bathrooms.) The campground is well patrolled by the city employees who maintain the park.
Past the campground, Washington Park has a 2 mile, one-way, single lane road with parking spots at the scenic areas. The road is closed to motor vehicles from 10:00pm until 10:00am, so many locals walk or bicycle it in the morning. There is one very tight 180 degree turn on it - it is not suitable for RVs. The scenery makes it well worth it to do the loop.
Adjacent to the campground is Sunset Beach day use area, with several picnic benches and campfire pits, a nice play structure, a two ramp boat launch, and a nice gravel beach with a spectacular view of the San Juan islands. My grandkids absolutely loved...
Read moreThe cost for camping is excellent. I love exploring this area in the spring/early summer. Wild flowers everywhere, taking walks around cliffs on colorful, fragrant paths, the greenest ferns, and moss covered trees. Washington Park never seems overcrowded. In fact, I never feel as if I’m surrounded by other visitors. Most walks, I never see, hardly any people at all. Feeling as if I’m camping two feet from the next guy is not the experience I want. There is a lot of room to stretch. The trees will feel like a weighted blanket. Safe and secure enough to really relax from all the external stresses that you leave behind when you decided to get away from it all. Never claustrophobic, surrounded by bluffs that overlook the vast ocean and islands near and far. The warm sun and the ocean breeze that washes over you as you sit on the grass and wild flowers. Ever time I visit this area, I become the person I sometimes forget about. I remember, that I am centered, not too airy and not too grounded. I inhale the fresh air and take the time to feel my body fully absorbing what we can easily take for granted. This area has the perfect balance of everything I need to keep myself balanced amd aligned where it is most important. I dont take the simple things in my life for granted. Washington park doesn’t have the amenities a 5 star hotel has. That is not what you would come here for. That’s just down the road. Here you get, simple, clean, with all the luxurious amenities that Mother Nature...
