I love the trails here! There are some trails that take you up and down the hills and then there are trails that are pretty flat and easy to navigate.
Most people you pass on the trails are friendly and will greet you. Most cyclists will ring their bell or yell out that they are coming up behind you.
There are several picnic areas Most with BBQ pits. There is also a beach volleyball court and a pool. It does cost to get into the pool are and it is only open during the summer months. I did not look to see how much it cost to get in.
The views from the top of the hills are breath taking! On a clear day you can see the Sierra Nevada mountains. If you have really good eye sight and look north east you can see some of the sky scrapers of Sacramento (about 100 miles away) and if you look east you can see some of the buildings in Stockton (not quite the sane distance as Sac but about 70-80 miles away)
I enjoy going around sun up or sun down. The way the sun light sends streams of light through the rolling hills of the Black Diamond mines with the butterflies and other little critters buzzing around is Amazing! There can be cattle grazing in the area from time to time but they are pretty used to the hikers and may or may not move out of the way when you're going along on a trail. Just be careful when passing. More people die from be8ng trampled by cattle every year than from shark attacks! You can also find wild turkeys roaming the hills. Most times they keep to themselves however every once in a while (usually during mating season they might pick a fight with a passerby if they think you are competition. Hahaha!)
I must warn! Spring the spring the snakes wake up from hibernation and start coming out and about. Now I have lived in Antioch for 20 years now and have only encountered a baby rattler once while on a walk! So they typically stay off the trails so do your part and stay on the trails!!! Wear proper hiking boots and watch where you step! When you get to a picnic area make sure to enspect the table and surrounding area before bringing children into the area and before setting up for a fun day.
Overall Contra Loma is a really nice place to go for a hike, a cycle, picnic or a swim (in the pool, swimming is not permitted in the lake). I highly recommend going for an afternoon or early morning hike. Avoid going on holidays as the park will be PACKED! And every trail...
Read moreHorrible customer service. I pulled up to take a look at the boat ramp for the next day, and there a sign that says no return privileges. So at this point I have two questions. 1 could I just take a look at the boat ram 2 what does no return privileges mean. I can read, but maybe it means if you had a site and you leave and wanna come back. Well I got up and asked if I could take a look, which i done numerous times and never been charged and what does the no return privileges mean. Well it seems they are serious about the no return. So i pay the 5 dollar charge and come back in less than ten minutes. The old man looked at the clock like it was a hour ago. It took me 25 min to get my refund back because the girl wasn't capable of processing a return. So she asked the old man with glasses who said he knew how and proceeded to use the wrong register. He eventually told me he was using the wrong register. Which was fine. So I'm sitting there watching cars come up and pay to get in. So as I'm waiting i remembered i had my East Bay park pass and asked if this will get me in free, and he snatched it out of my hands and said only if you have a ID, like I have some random persons park pass. So im watching more cars come up and the girl knowing the old man with glasses needs that register. She keeps taking more cars. So at this point I'm getting mad. I said a curse word but not at him cause im frustrated. I basically asked do I have to wait for all of Antioch to show up to get my money back and they shut the window on me. I feel like it's not worth going here if you could avoid it. I wish I'd knew there names so I could report them. It felt very personal not business like on how me and my wife...
