If you have a young family and a large dog and visited the Mesa/ Gilbert/ Chandler Arizona area you know there are tons of RV parks to stay in but not many that don’t have age restrictions or have pet size restrictions. Fear not! There is a nice quiet KOA over in Apache Junction! They have a nice dog park area, a pool, and friendly staff! #koa #apachejunction #rvlife #rvliving #5thwheel #5thwheelliving #5thwheelfamily #roaddog #travelvlog #travelblogger #arizona

As a lifelong tent camper we are fortunate to get our first RV. We were assigned to spot 57 and our RV could not auto-level there. We called the emergency number for permission to move across the way to an empty spot (no response from the night host at all). About 2:00 am we gave up on the night host, moved, leveled and went to sleep. All of our contracts and the KOA space number was in our window. The next morning, we were awakened by a laugh knock. A male KOA employee in a yellow shirt, white beard and straw hat yelled at me, “go up front and register.” I tried to explain the night before, he cut me off. I asked if I could get my registration and contract from the window of the RV and he said “your paperwork means nothing to me, just go up front NOW and register.” I could not get another word out before he put his hand up in my face said and said “lady, go to the front office and register.” He then kept circling our campsite with his golf cart as we packed up. So short on sleep, we packed up three hours before our registration time was up, no breakfast and no shower, ran to the front office. Of course, by the time I got to the front office, they had heard about what happened from another employee and there was a lady there apologizing all over the place and saying the actions of their employee was wrong and inappropriate. She said in their defense, the night host should have called us back in the night (that’s her job) and she should have called or left a note for them that we had moved across the way. (The park was about half full, tons of open spots). So one KOA employee jostles us out of our sleep, belittles and disrespects us, the KOA night host they say is new to the job and made a number of mistakes including never giving the morning crew a heads up regarding the night before. So KOA culture is: (1) do not talk to your paying customers, just yell at them and belittle them and (2) when you on board night hosts, you do not adequately train them in customer service. Joined KOA top membership, first RV, first road trip, first stop on the road trip and this was our first experience with KOA culture.

I will give more than two stars but unfortunately their customer service made it impossible. I called over a month ago and reserved two nights I called back three weeks ago and canceled one of the nights. Fast-forward on our trip I get a call saying they’re canceling both of our nights because we didn’t show up. We didn’t show up because I had already canceled it weeks ago. Their excuse: prove that you called two weeks ago I don’t think you can. I had it on my phone history but they wouldn’t look. The woman in the office has a snide response to my arrival and was not kind in the least bit. I told her as I came in that I was not upset and I was ok paying for the extra night even though they made the mistake so there was no reason to be rude. *As I was standing there she started talking to another employee bad mouthing a customer about a situation very similar to mine. I found that very unprofessional to speak about your customers like that to anyone in front of anyone. *Also when we came in the bbq was locked and no one was available at the office like they said they would be. Their excuse: it was my fault for not coming the first day. * but I talked to them and told they that day that we would be coming and it was ok that we paid for the other day and a person escorted us to our space so how’s that our fault. Just absolutely unprofessional I would have settled with “I’m so sorry this happened I wish I could do more but I can’t” But what I got was a laundry list of excuse to why I was at fault and a snide condescending attitude from them. * also the water there next to the sink as Phoenix residents I’m sure they know not to use it but for someone coming from another state they may not know. I tested the water and it was reading at max contamination level. There should be a sign stating that for their own safety. I won’t be back

We stayed here twice, once in January, 2022 and now January of 2023. We were new to the “snowbird” thing, and hadn’t made any arrangements for an RV park in the Phoenix area. This KOA had an opening, so we took it. We stayed here 4 nights and moved within the park 3 times as spaces would open up. The staff was very accommodating as we got our feet under us and figured out what we were going to do next. It wasn’t ideal to move, but we did get to experience difference sites and really experience the park. This recent trip, we also called last minute (as we had a change in our original plan to go to Tuscon) and we were able to get a spot for 4 nights! Again, the staff was very friendly and helpful! The park is very clean and well-maintained. There are several long-timers that have made the park home, including a few “tiny” houses. The park features a dog-park, hot tub, pool, laundry, small gift shop and RV accessories, ice and coffee. Laundry was approximately $2.50 per wash and $1.50 for the dryers. There is one oversized washer and dryer. The location is very close to the Superstition Mountains and on the far Eastern end of the city. There is shopping, restaurants, car washes, and services nearby. The location feels rural and but isn’t. We felt safe in the park and in the surrounding areas. The staff said that sites can be rented on a daily or monthly basis, but not weekly, as the rates would not change from the per day rate. We will be back next year!

An acceptable gravel KOA on a main road. Stayed here mid-Jan 2024. Pull-through FHU 50 amp. All gravel. Site #41. General: It's an acceptable option to see some local stuff. The area smells bad some days. Staff: Staff are very nice and helpful. Sites: Our site (#41) was very spacious and had LOTS of room behind it all the way to the retaining wall at the main road. Had daily trouble with folks site cutting with dogs off-leash, and most were repeatedly disrespectful when asked to use the campground road to access the area. Campground Road: Paved/gravel mix. Campground WiFi: Could not connect on any attempt for thee 14 nights. Grounds: Clean and maintained really well. But definitely needs updating. Bathrooms/Showers: Shower stalls in an open bathroom environment. Poorly light showers. Laundry: 6 washers (a couple did not work well) and 2 working dryers (1 was out of order). Pool: Did not use. Location: 3-5 min from gas and groceries. 20 min to Lost Dutchman, 45 to Casa Grande NM, 1hr 20min to Tonto. 25-35 min to Phoenix and Scottsdale areas. Near highway: Yes. Close to highway and highway noise if that bothers you. Near train: No. Cell: Verizon worked but the signal is deceiving. Spotty and caused issues with meetings cutting out. Could stream but with buffering. Cell: AT&T worked best and could work on vpn and uninterrupted Zoom calls. Could also stream movies.

Pretty uninspiring KOA. From the time I walked in, and was automatically asked “are you sure you want to stay 10 days”… almost prompting that I shouldn’t. Not even a hello, or any type of personable hospitality greeting. To during our stay, I had someone take our wash out of the washer- I was maybe 15 minutes late to getting it. When I mentioned to the desk- I personally think it’s rude to touch other people’s belongings- the response I got was “well that’s what we do here”. Oh, so we are rude, touch other people’s belongings (maybe I needed to get an extra wash in- or what if I had delicates- nope just thrown on a table)- also, I have two small children. I cannot just sit at the wash for two hours. When I visit a campground laundry room and a washer is done with other peoples belongings- I just wait and or either come back later. The playground is old school (a few swings, tetherball, two toy diggers, and a merry a go around). The site was flat, gravel pad. To the time of leaving- we wanted to use the restrooms real fast before leaving. They shut down both bathrooms for cleaning between 10am- 1pm- making it completely inaccessible. Literally, people were just standing outside waiting to shower- no consideration for their customers. We are KOA members and plan to continue to be- but we will not be visiting this KOA ever again.
