I have done this hike a few times with a friend, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely GORGEOUS at sunrise. Located near the city of Apache Junction, you can see some of the trails off the freeway. We get there while it’s still dark out, so that we can catch the sunrise while at the top. I would say this hikes at this location are easy-moderately (depending on your hiking abilities) challenging, so wear the right hiking shoes. One good thing about this hike is, I never see bikers, maybe due to the elevation and narrow trails. Plenty of parking if you are an early bird. If you hike in the summer, it is direct sunlight.

To begin, I only recommend this trail for ā€œbeginnersā€ who are seeking easy, short length hikes. To elaborate, this trail offers less elevation than other trail park options. The only disadvantage to this destination is the litter. Hence, I’d like to walk for at least 15 mins without seeing a cup on the dirt. Please recycle/ discard litter when here!

This is a fun and relatively easy hiking spot that is never super busy. It’s short; you can probably get in 2 or 3 miles. But it’s a great place to go for a relaxing hike if you don’t want to exert a lot of energy that day. There are some nice view of the Superstitions as well, especially at sunset.

Silly Mountain is a nice medium sized mountain that takes about an hour plus give or take round trip to the summit and back. It offers nice birds' eye views of the Superstitions and surrounding area at the summit. I would say it is a hidden gem as it maybe is not as well known as like Camelback or Usery, but I just love how peaceful it was and only ran into 4 other people on the trail. Note, there is only an outhouse by the front and there are no water fountains. I also saw one picnic table.

In terms of maps, there is one right when you walk in and then there is another one as you approach the mountain. There's also a round holder that's supposed to hold paper maps there, but they were out. However, the signs are marked clearly and there are arrows to tell you what way to go. I ended up going up Brittlebrush and then to Old Mine. I did not see any mines but it did bring me to the summit. The first 2/3 of the trail is beginner friendly as it's gentle, but the last third it turns a bit more intermediate. There are more rocks you have to wrangle. The trail was coated with rocks and some of them are loose too so it may feel not as fun going down it- esp if you are a beginner hiker.

I also stopped by the botanical garden at the front. Nothing too exciting. It offers a quarter mile loop and you can see desert plants; there are tiny signs by each plant. I didn't go the whole loop.

Overall, decent place for a short, quick hike that will get your heart pumping and that will also treat you to a nice view of Apache...
