Had a wonderful time at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas. I arrived on Thursday July 16, checked out Monday July 20. Lucky for me the weather was excellent and provided me multiple opportunities to hike and explore the Ozark Mountains. This something I have always wanted to do. The staff were friendly and very helpful. My campsite, 34, had everything I needed. Water, electric, and close to the bath house. The heat and humidity were strong but it is the middle of July so I expected that. At night the humidity would break and I would actually need a blanket for the morning. I camped by tent so did my neighbors who were very friendly. We even shared dinner and breakfast together. The park was busy so I was happy that I made my reservation early. I highly recommend hiking the Yellow Rock trail up to the overlook. What a view! Then come down the trail and jump into Lee Creek to cool off. Swimming in the creek made me feel like I was a local Arkansas kid. Just a personal note, but Devil's Den is located in a "dry" county so make sure to stock up before hand :) Thanks for reading my review and have a great day! Rolf aka...
Read moreExcellent trail for mountain biking and running. You can easily take multiple loops and add mileage to your hike/run/ride by doubling back on some of the loops on this trail. There are a couple of good places to stop and take in the views along the way. Be mindful that this wouldn't be a trail you'd take your grandparents or the little ones on, as it will test your endurance. By the end of your hike or ride on this trail you'll be ready to sit down for sure.
The maps provided at DD visitor center aren't very useful when navigating the trail at times due to the orientation of the map and key being in different directions. That would be my only gripe with this trail. As long as you stay on the clearly marked trails you'll be okay though.
All that being said, this is a beautiful, well maintained trail that has wonderful sights and sounds to take in. The creek running alongside this trail is really a treat to have in the background to listen to.
Definitely worth checking out, and leaving...
Read moreAll the known Devil's Den State Park caves are posted closed. To deter White Nose Syndrome infection. Other underground recreation are subject to discovery. As now determined by extensive park topography clues. Within the woodland extent of surface karst. Locate the solution features. See visitor rules as to which discovery activities are prohibited. Limestone caves are known to open an entry with no human involvement. Sadly, underground geological activity may swallow reader while you're in bed. There are USA examples of both elsewhere in this century. If a new entry is uncovered let me recommend capping it to stop skunks or venomous reptiles. Any wide flat stone will suffice. Please exit immediately if cave bats are seen. Wash all items employed for cave visits after exit. Do that before entering another cave. Humans are infection carriers...
