We were traveling to Eureka Springs and stopped by here to hike along the way. Do not recommend doing this in August as there is no waterflow, the ticks are out in spades and Chiggers. The path was a little overgrown but this was off season for hiking, it was pretty hot outside. We didn't see anyone on the path, it was a fairly easy hike but very uneven and rocky. Lots of wildlife in the area. The Cave was definitely worth the hike, no flowing water though. This was probably booming moonshine back in it's day. Read moreTrail and trailheads are not marked, so not many people visit this hidden gem. Take the trail entrance located south of the parking spots. If you take the trailhead that is obvious AT the parking spaces, you will likely wander around for an hour or so and not find the Moonshiners Cave. You will hike downhill most of the way to the cave. Take a left at the fork in the trail. Continue but stay to the right of the creek. There is an overlook area where you can probably camp. Keep heading down to get to the cave (cavern) entrance. Read moreWe got lost a few times since there were no markings. Luckily, we found out way back to the path. A little rocky at points but not bad! Great lil hike with an amazing historical discovery at the end! My husband loved to explore the ruins of this site. We took our time and used our walking sticks.... we always need them due to health issues... Worth the drive.. Best to track yourselves and pay attention to your natural markers. The State Park visitor center has an info sheet that helped out. Surprised that this is not marked.... Enjoy! Be careful around rocks. Always take water...
