It's such a beautiful place! We were camping in a tent. Our site was right on the water and near the front of the campground. The number one host wasn't very friendly. Bring a hammer of your camping in a tent, getting the stakes in could prove to be difficult. The site right next to us had to borrow ours. Now, I know it's camping, and you're in the wilderness. However, there was a black snake (not sure if it was a rat snake or a water Moccasin) either way, the snake slithered past, then came back and slithered between my partner's legs. She moved closer to the tent from the water, and it came back toward her. At one point, we had two adult female geese creep up behind me while I was sitting at the picnic table. It had it's wings slightly open and hissing at me! I didn't even know they did that. Also, that same night a giant cockroach climbed up my naked leg in the campground shower. I didn't mind the spiders, ants, birds, squarels, deer, or any other animals not trying to attack us.

Lovely views. Quiet. Not too many flat sites for RVs so be prepared. Here during government shut down so ablutions not serviced

Joplin public use area/campground is a very secluded campground and would recommend campers longer than 33' stay away. Also be sure you know which spot you are booking. Some have been remodeled and are excellent and some are tent only. Signage is pitiful in the park for directing you to your campsite so get here before dark. Once here it is a very enjoyable spot with great views of the lake. Just know what you...

A great place for a getaway with family and friends...very calm, serene environment. The night skies were the best part...coming from a metro city i had not seen so many stars in the sky for a long long time. The rest rooms and the showers were super clean making the experience even better..all in all a must visit place if you are looking for a time away from your busy...
