All of the reviews I read did not prepare me for this trail, so I’m writing this to hopefully prepare others. This trail was not maintained at all. Like the trail was not visible because of the overgrowth. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there was poison ivy in some sections. Even once you reach the lighthouse, you have to push your way through trees into the opening. I’ve done a lot of hiking and I could not believe how overgrown this trail was. The lighthouse was cute and I’m happy I can check it off my list…but honestly I wish I was wearing clothes where my skin was completely covered. Also, everyone writes “easy” but it’s a bit misleading because it’s not level and there are roots. It’s not a wide, flat wooded path. It is a hike. Hiking shoes are a must. And others did say this - there are ticks especially because of the overgrowth. I didn’t find any on me when we got back to the car but there were two on my brother. I didn’t take any pictures of the trail because I was honestly just focused on doing my best to avoid what I could the whole time because I...
Read moreSquirrel Point Light is such a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys peaceful hikes and beautiful coastal views. The trail is just under two miles round-trip, fairly easy, and winds through quiet Maine woods with stunning scenery along the way. We visited on a pretty day, and the walk in was as enjoyable as the destination itself. When the lighthouse finally came into view, it felt like something straight out of a postcard — small, charming, and full of character.
Built in the late 1800s, this historic light once guided ships safely through the Kennebec River and still stands as a quiet reminder of Maine’s maritime past. It’s not a commercialized or crowded site, which makes the experience even more peaceful. The only reason I’m giving it a 4.5 instead of a full 5 is that there aren’t many amenities, so it’s best suited for those who enjoy a bit of off-the-beaten-path exploring. If you’re looking for a short, scenic hike and a glimpse into coastal history, this lighthouse is well...

Really no resting spots along the way only one bench. And if you were to stop you would be eaten alive. Better markings for lighthouse and maybe a map at...
