We chose the 1774 Inn in large part because of our experience on our first visit. We got to meet Marianne, our eventual wedding coordinator, and one of the owners, Stuart. The first thing that we noticed about the Inn is the obvious, the setting is beautiful, and the vibe is wonderfully calming. We came to realize so much more about the Inn during the following two years we spent planning our wedding. The owners are incredibly kind and down to earth. Throughout our entire experience Sarah and Stuart (the owners) kept working on the Inn, creating the Hayloft suite and retouching many of the rooms at the Inn with their unique sense of style and quality. Our experience in planning the wedding and working with the Inn could not have been better. Marianne and the owners have extensive experience with vendors in the area and were an instrumental resource for us as we chose our perfect vendor team. The 1774 Inn was our first decision in planning our wedding and we could not have chosen a more wonderful group of people to work with. That became very evident on our wedding day. It was perfect. We got to experience Kindness Day in Bath, fireworks on the beach at Popham that happily coincided with our rehearsal dinner, Sarah’s delicious breakfast on the morning of our wedding, and a wonderful familial atmosphere at the Inn in the days leading up to our wedding. A wedding at the 1774 Inn has all the wonderful photographic and experiential benefits of a destination wedding as well as the feel of a backyard wedding with family you haven’t seen for a long time and can’t wait to catch up with. We loved every second of our stay and highly recommend making use of the outdoor firepit, Popham beach and the surrounding Bath area, as well as the ability to spend the morning after the wedding at the 1774 Inn. We were initially planning on leaving our wedding on our wedding night but were convinced to stay the night at the Inn and have breakfast with our wedding party and family members on Sunday morning. It was the perfect decision for us and is a wonderfully insightful benefit of the 1774 Inn. We truly cannot say a single bad thing about the Inn, and the people that work there. As a result of some unforeseen circumstances, we had to adjust the schedule of our wedding day slightly and make some other changes. Everyone at the Inn was super helpful, supportive, flexible, and put us at ease throughout the day. Everybody always says their wedding day was the best day ever. Ours truly was, and the people who made it possible at the 1774 Inn are people we will not only be forever grateful too, but they are also people we will think of from now on as close friends. You will not find this combination of scenic beauty, wonderful people, and historic awe anywhere else. We could not be happier with everything about our wedding experience with the 1774...
Read moreMy husband and I got married at the 1774 Inn in August 2023 and to say our wedding weekend was magical would be an understatement! It’s that magic that you get when you choose the historic 1774 Inn as your venue.
Bottom line: The 1774 Inn is your venue if you want a personalized, charming wedding-weekend experience in a picturesque location, supported by a caring and talented team.
Long Version: We stumbled upon the Inn online and decided to send an inquiry. From the first email exchange with the incredible Marianne Vold, who would later become our planner, more on her later, we knew we had found something special. And once we went out to tour the property, we knew we found the place.
As for the property itself, the 1774 Inn is a historic property that has somehow maintained its original charm despite its modern updates. Additionally, the Inn is nestled between property owned by the same duo, which gives you and your guests privacy and space to celebrate the weekend away.
As for the team, you cannot find better. Sarah and Stuart, the husband and wife duo who own the Inn, are welcoming, kind, and truly care about the couples and their guests. From the cleaning crew to maintenance, everyone who works at the Inn truly wants you to have the best experience and will go out of their way to make sure you have it. And last, but certainly not least, Marianne. The best thing you can do for your wedding experience is to work with Marianne. Marianne has an incredible amount experience in the wedding industry that she channels into helping you create your dream wedding. All of my guests had a “Marianne story" - a sweet exchange with her that felt so noteworthy and special to them that they wanted to share it with us. We get it - we have many of our own!
As for the experience itself, my husband and I chose to have an intimate wedding of only 35 guests. I note this to say that the Inn can be a home to an event of any size. While the Inn has been the venue for many large and beautiful weddings, our petit event fit just as well.
One of our beloved guests put it best, “When I tell you every spare second this week my brain has started daydreaming about the pure ✨magic✨ that was [this] wedding 😍 Hands down the most beautiful, intimate, romantic, Pinterest worthy, dreamy wedding I have ever been to! It was such an honor to share in your special day. I will never be over this wedding! 🤍”

Read moreFor our recent trip to the coast of Maine, we planned a trip staying primarily in Inns and B&B's. I read a lot of reviews, and based on the reviews of the 1774 Inn, booked there. It was the most expensive place we stayed during our trip, and it fell far short of other places.||||Let me say that Stuart was a very nice host. We never met his wife, but he was friendly and helpful . It seems like they are working hard at the Inn, but the whole experience needs some work.||||The window in our room was wide open (it was October) and the room was really cold! We had to plug in a space heater in order to warm it up. That was the only heat in the room.||||There's a nice view of the water, but the grounds were a bit messy. Stuart explained they were in the middle of planting new plants for the fall, but it seems like it would be better to do that after you've closed for the season in a few weeks.||||The breakfast, though, was the worst part for us. We entered a freezing cold breakfast room. Stuart explained the thermostat was in a guest's room, so he couldn't turn the heat on until they got up! We had to sit on our hands to keep them warm!||||Stuart was preparing and serving the breakfast by himself. It was served in courses. But the guests came in on their own time. So this meant he was serving courses to different guests at different times, while preparing them in the kitchen as well. And he told each guest all about each course as he served it. I know he was proud of the food, but the result was that the breakfast took literally two hours! It was a very long time to sit and wait.....||||They appear to be in the process of redoing a lot of things at this Inn. So it feels like it's in the process of being upgraded. Which is fine. But ... it shouldn't then be the most expensive place around!||||We stayed at the Limerock Inn in Rockland which was an absolutely fantastic experience! And quite a bit less money. I think it's what the 1774 Inn aspires to be. ||||I wish Stuart & his wife the best, but feel that they need to up their game a bit, and lower...
