Aspen Highlands Ski Resort Review
Aspen Highlands is a true gem in the Aspen Snowmass area, offering an unparalleled skiing experience for adventurers and thrill-seekers alike. Renowned for its stunning terrain and breathtaking views, this resort caters especially to advanced and expert skiers, though it provides something for everyone.
The standout feature of Aspen Highlands is undoubtedly Highland Bowl. For those willing to make the hike, the reward is an adrenaline-pumping descent down some of the steepest and most challenging runs in North America. The panoramic views from the summit are worth the effort alone. For intermediate skiers, there are well-groomed runs that provide a mix of challenge and fun without being overwhelming.
What sets Aspen Highlands apart is its intimate and uncrowded vibe compared to other Aspen resorts. The smaller crowds mean shorter lift lines and more time on the slopes, making it ideal for those seeking a quieter, more focused skiing experience.
The resort’s infrastructure is top-notch, with efficient lifts and a well-designed layout that makes navigating the mountain easy. At the base, you’ll find Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro, a legendary spot for après-ski with lively European-style energy, amazing fondue, and sweeping mountain views.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the resort’s welcoming atmosphere. While it may not offer the wide variety of beginner slopes found at other Aspen resorts, Aspen Highlands excels in providing a world-class experience for seasoned skiers and snowboarders.
Whether you’re here for the thrilling terrain or the laid-back mountain charm, Aspen Highlands delivers in every way. It’s a must-visit destination for those looking to push their limits and enjoy the beauty of the...
Read moreVisited on a 5-day trip and we saved Highlands for a day with new snow (5-7" overnight and a few more through the day) as we had heard from friends that without new snow Highlands is highly icy. Great tree runs under Temerity and Loge lifts. Some of the double black tree runs closer to Loge lift were too steep for the snow to stick and just slid exposing the ice underneath. However, runs like Mushroom and others under Temerity were less steep and were absolutely fun even after getting tracked out later in the day. Didn't try the the bowl as viz (see pics) was extremely low at the top of lifts - figured going through trees would be more fun than through soup . Also had a chance to enjoy Sherwood Forest and some of the short runs lower down the mountain. We had...
Read moreThat steep Highlands Bowl! Hike up (to 12.3K) & have fun cruising back down. No snowcat running on my visit, but it’s only a quick little lap around the bottom of the hike.
From the top of Loge Peak lift (11675 ft) it’s about 700 vertical feet to hike to the summit. The first stretch you can glide down before taking off your skis/board & de-layering for the hike. Seems like 30/45 min would be a fast hike and 1-1:15 is a little slower pace to reach the summit depending on your fitness and acclimatization to the elevation.
Overall great runs and steep terrain. Did some laps on the runs after hiking & skiing the bowl. Love this place and wish I could visit more often. Not much for greens. If you like it steep, go here...
