To get tickets to the lighthouse, because you're paying for beach access as well, the cost is by carload. It cost $10 for a car for the day, it doesn't matter how many passengers. A week pass for a car is $25. A season pass costs $45. The lighthouse is about 175 steps to the top. You park at at a fence where there is a restroom. You then take a short walk through a wooded area, with some sand which is easy to walk through, but may cause someone to walk a little slower. The path does go uphill. There is a gazebo and walking trail area near the lighthouse. There is an attendant when you enter to provide information and keep count of hown many people are in at one time. It is a spiral lighthouse with some window areas to step aside and take a break or to allow people to pass by. There is an attendant at the top to provide information. You can walk around the top of the lighthouse for different views and exit whenever you want. I am not sure of seasonal operation and hours, but the attendant said they close at 3:30. If you arrive 5 minutes before closing, they may allow you to enter, but it would be up to the attendant being that they stop allowing people in at 3:30. You can enter in and out as many times you would like as long as...
Β Β Β Read moreLet's get this out of the way first - there are LOTS and LOTS of steps in this spiral stairwell! Your legs will be tired and you will need to rest a few times before reaching the top! If you have asthma or get winded easily, this is probably not going to be pleasant for you to be honest.
With that said, this is a really cool experience to be had on this island. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the islands history and facts regarding the wild ponies. The best part, is admission is FREE as of this review date. It's completely donation based. So for any amount (or none), you can climb to the top and see the island in all it's glory! HIGHLY recommended. But beware, the walking trails are in the woods, so SPRAY UP or pay the price of the island's massive mosquito population! You've...
Β Β Β Read moreBring all types of mosquito repellent (bug sprays, mosquito netting, bug zappers, etc.) Make sure you put bug spray on before you get to the park, put on more bug spray once you get to the park and carry the bug spray with you to put more on as you walk up to the lighthouse. The mosquitoes are very very bad. The walk to and from the lighthouse is a nice short walk with a lot of mosquitos. If the mosquitos didn't scare you back to your vehicle or carry you away and you made it to the lighthouse, the property and the lighthouse is well maintained. I didn't realize that the lighthouse was opened, there was two groups of us and not one of us walked up to the door to see if you could go inside. Next time I'll check the door and I will be much more prepared for...
