Stone Lion Winery and Events — Attraction in Athens Township

The one good thing about this venue is that it’s beautiful with so many options to have your outdoor ceremony and reception tent is huge with high ceilings.. however I would not recommend this venue to any other couple. Two weeks leading up to our wedding we were unable to get in contact with Dave and Kathy. Our day of coordinator and I left emails, voicemails and texts and we would get no responses back and when would finally reach one of them we were told they would get back to us shortly but no official response until three days prior to wedding. Day of wedding there were SO MANY RESTRICTIONS that come up!!. It was insane the amount of times we were told to not to do things or that it’s not allowed and so much of this was not in the contract. It seems to be that it’s all up to Dave’s discretion and not what was in the contract. We were upfront with them and told them we were going to have live music and during that time they never mentioned that they had a “sound limit” it’s in the contract however it’s very vague. Throughout the night Dave kept coming in and telling us that The band needs to be quiet(the band had no speakers) there was no way of making it any more quiet… it’s live music!!! They told us that they love having live music however that is definitely not the case here. Our dj was told to lower the volume down all throughout the night and he was getting frustrated because it was already at a low volume that our guest would not be able to hear. They have this thing that detects sounds outside and any loud sound(people talking near it) would trigger it and then Dave would come out and tell us to lower our music. We were told that our music was so loud that neighbors were complaining and calling cops however our guest leaving throughout the night near the main parking lot by house could not hear our music. I just think that sound limit is extremely ridiculous! The venue/house does not have a formal bridal suite or a formal groomsmen suite and when we toured the venue two years prior Dave and Kathy mentioned that they are constantly doing changes and updates so that there was more to come with both rooms however no changes were ever made. While we were getting ready in lobby we had no privacy the staff and Dave kept coming into our area while we were getting ready. The grooms suite is literally an unfinished basement with some chairs it’s very grey bad for pictures. We were under the impression that remodeling was gonna take place. First and foremost, the backdrop of the Stone Lion Vineyard is absolutely breathtaking. Set on 80 acres of well-manicured land, the vineyard offers a picturesque setting that perfectly captures the beauty of Minnesota. The super large tent made for great comfort and sounded amazing with the band. The natural surroundings, with lush greenery and serene landscapes, created a romantic ambiance that made our wedding day truly unforgettable.

The Tuscan contemporary styled Bed and Breakfast at the Stone Lion Vineyard added a touch of elegance and charm to our stay. The attention to detail in the décor was remarkable, with each corner exuding warmth and sophistication. The rooms were not only comfortable but also tastefully decorated, providing a cozy retreat for us and our guests.

I want to start by saying that Stone Lion Winery was absolutely breathtaking as our wedding venue. The property is stunning, and we couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful place to say “I do.” One of the best parts is the variety of ceremony locations they offer — we chose to get married down by the Rum River, and it was magical. The river flowing behind us created the perfect natural backdrop, and the location was a nice distance from the reception tent, which helped everything flow smoothly.

We had 250 guests, and not once did it feel crowded. The reception tent was spacious and beautifully decorated, especially with the elegant white draping on the ceiling, which added such a romantic touch.

This venue is also very kid-friendly, which was important to us. They provided outdoor games for the kids and had plenty of cozy outdoor seating areas where guests could relax and enjoy the scenery.

We stayed on-site at the bed and breakfast, which was a huge plus. It was so convenient and relaxing to have everything in one place — no need to travel after the wedding! We even got to choose our breakfast and what time we wanted it, and Dave brought it right to our room. The food was absolutely top-notch.

Dave was so easygoing, kind, and responsive, even with my last-minute questions and requests. He truly went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.
