I’ll start by saying I love this course. Learned to play golf here, I keep going even as an intermediate (still challenging), and I go to their range at least once a week. They are always friendly, outgoing, and the course is perpetually in great shape. Today I had an unpleasant experience with their Marshall, and am just hoping they will see this review to resolve any further unnecessary encounters and help streamline their process.
My playing partner and I are on the 1st tee, and it’s backed up pretty bad. We end up teeing off about 15 minutes after our tee time (no big deal), but the Marshall comes up to us and asks what time we had reserved as there was a significant build up of groups on the 1st tee box due to some slow groups ahead - not super uncommon in Atlanta golf. I told him our time and he was very confused. I never really got an answer as to why our being there made no sense to him but he wouldn’t let us tee off without a paper receipt. Charlie Yates has an online reservation system, and I checked in/paid up online this time. I stopped by the pro shop to make sure that I was all good to go - the front desk said, “Yep, enjoy your round!” The Marshall was really stuck on the fact that I didn’t have a physical receipt on my person, and I asked him to go back to the clubhouse to confirm our time as we only had a couple of hours of daylight to get the round started/finished. He comes back and still tells us they don’t have any reservations on my specific time. Didn’t ask for any information other than my tee time - which should’ve been enough but if you’re skeptical that I didn’t pay then get my name, number, etc.
At this point I’m just really confused, and a bit angry because we now are 30 minutes past our tee time. There were 3 groups on the 1st tee, but he didn’t make anyone go back to the pro shop but me and my buddy. He wouldn’t listen to anything we had to say, and only would tell us “I need a receipt.” And word for word told us, multiple times, this is your problem - figure it out. I ended the conversation with him, and he kept riding beside me in his cart just saying “this is your problem.” I understand sir, I do not want to keep going back and forth with you over this.
As soon as we get back in the pro shop, the front desk recognizes me/that I checked in and the Marshall just says “You can decide whether you want to let them play or not.” I confirmed the tee time (again), it’s now 40 minutes past - I convince them to let us play a few minutes little later than usual to try and finish the round. I did ask for a refund for the inconvenience + the fact that we wouldn’t be able to compete the full round, but I didn’t get that request fulfilled. It’s a pretty expensive 9 hole course, your Marshall has no way of checking reservations correctly, and we didn’t get to play the full round unfortunately. Not to mention that he brought a completely non existent problem to us and then made us resolve it.
My hope is that Charlie Yates will see this, and implement any minor change so this doesn’t happen to other people. Give the guy a walkie talkie back to the pro shop, an iPad to check the reservations…anything. Funny enough, this is the first time in over a year that I have encountered a Marshall that was actually checking on tee times, or whatever this guy was trying to do. Frankly, the most frustrating thing was that the man couldn’t get a simple reservation confirmation figured out on his own - or accept any confirmation on my phone other than a paper receipt…and then tell the players who were just pushed back almost an hour that it’s “your problem” that I can’t figure it out. Guess what…there are 3 groups backed up on the 1st tee right now because you aren’t doing your job and keeping up pace of play. Don’t pick out a random group and make them get off because you’re confused and don’t know what’s going on. You may have already guessed this but I did not get an apology from the Marshall after I went back and confirmed the tee time in...
Read moreDidn’t get to play. It was lightning outside at our tee time. Went to the course because I had to prepay a portion of the fee when I booked tee time so I wanted to make sure it got refunded. (Most golf courses won’t let you play when it is lightning) When I got there, the lady said that we could play even though it was lightning. I told her that I wanted to get my prepay back becomes we weren’t going to play while it was lightning. She said that golfnow keeps that whether you play or not. I didn’t book through golfnow. I specifically don’t use golfnow for this reason. I used the Charlie Yates website booking feature. So beware whether rain or shine (lightning or not), you are going to be...
Read moreOverall disappointed. First off, let me tell you that this is not a regular 9 hole golf course like the website states. This is an executive golf course with 7/9 holes being a par 3. On top of that, the course was not in good shape by any means. The greens were half dead and there were divots and chunks of grass all over them, there was no point to put the ball once it got to the green. Then on top of it, our golf cart didn’t have a lock on the brake so we couldn’t stop without the cart rolling forwards or backwards. Lastly, it cost me $53 to play here, I much rather of paid the same about to go play a regular golf course with manicured maintenance and a working golf cart. Will not be...
