The Paul Bunyan statue in Atlanta, Illinois is the biggest guy in townâliterally. Heâs 19 feet tall, holding a giant hot dog like itâs Excalibur, and guarding Route 66 with the kind of confidence only fiberglass can provide.
Itâs roadside Americana at its finest: weird, wonderful, and a little confusing. Why is Paul Bunyan holding a hot dog instead of an axe? Nobody knows, but honestlyâit works. Itâs as if he chopped down a forest and then said, âYou know what, Iâve earned a snack.â
The statue makes for fantastic photos. Stand next to him and youâll look like you shrank in a cartoon. Plus, where else can you say you met a legendary lumberjack who gave up logging to sell giant hot dogs on Route 66?
