The Paul Bunyan statue in Atlanta, Illinois is the biggest guy in town—literally. He’s 19 feet tall, holding a giant hot dog like it’s Excalibur, and guarding Route 66 with the kind of confidence only fiberglass can provide.
It’s roadside Americana at its finest: weird, wonderful, and a little confusing. Why is Paul Bunyan holding a hot dog instead of an axe? Nobody knows, but honestly—it works. It’s as if he chopped down a forest and then said, “You know what, I’ve earned a snack.”
The statue makes for fantastic photos. Stand next to him and you’ll look like you shrank in a cartoon. Plus, where else can you say you met a legendary lumberjack who gave up logging to sell giant hot dogs on Route 66?

Read more1🪓 Another Route 66 giant checked off! Stopped by to visit Paul Bunyan and his giant hot dog—because how could I not? 😄 It’s a quick, quirky roadside stop with lots of Route 66 charm. Great spot for photos and a fun break on the road.
