Meh - fairly flat and not much to see. I would rate it best for running, biking next and hiking last.
I arrived at the parking area at 9:15 on a Tuesday morning and was the only vehicle there. (TIP - look for a solo telephone pole with nothing on it just before the turn-in for the lot as you head west on 56th. It is real easy to miss and drive by.) There is a double metal gate at the trail head.
The trail is a wide gravel path that is well maintained. There was a tractor with bush hog driving down the middle of the trail which cut back growth for about two feet on either side. The problem is that it throws goat heads and prickly vines into the trail that could be a problem for bikes.
The scenery is basic prairie. I was surprised that I didn’t see any wildlife for the five miles I traversed. A couple of small birds was all I noticed. Having seen deer, eagles, hawks, prairie dogs and bison in other areas of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal I was disappointed by the absence of wildlife.
