Such a bummer. My child is going for art camp this week which is great, so we decided to head over during the evening (Thursday) to check out what he's been doing all week. Their website clearly says they are open til 9. We showed up at 7:20 and were turned away by an extremely rude and pretentious woman in glasses named Sydney. She said they have a movie night and that there is no general admission. The movie doesn't even start until 8:45. Nowhere on the website did it say that it will be closed during the movie nights for those visiting for general admission. It's frustrating because it's the only night they are open and we'd been looking forward to it all week. She turned us away with as much attitude as she could muster. After being uppity and rude she offered us passes to come back, which are useless to us because we're members. They force you to buy a membership to do the camp, which is its own frustrating rip off.
Basically, website is not informative enough, staff at the gate is incredibly rude.
My 6 year old literally asked me later why the 'lady at Laguna Gloria...
Read moreWow. How is it that I grew up in Austin but am only now visiting the Contemporary at Laguna Gloria? I must have been living under a rock. No, no, I was too busy checking out all the great happy hours. The truth is, when I was younger I didn't appreciate the local art that Austin had to offer.
ANYway. We came here on a Thursday because they have free admission and soon learned that this place is really special. There are so many awesome, unique and beautiful sculptures and it's all outside. They also have sculptures that are featured for a specific amount of time and move on, and there are sometimes events for these. We attended one of those events and it was really cool to hear from the artist and attend the unveiling.
Also, one of my most favorite Austin events has been the Contemporary Valentines Day karaoke party. I really hope this is an annual thing.
This is definitely a cool place to check out to enjoy art, enjoy nature and participate in community events. Also, the gift shop is...
Read moreI attended the Indie House Events launch at this beautiful venue. The parking is street parking so for bigger events I am unsure if they offer a different option but, I would opt for valet parking if you are having a wedding or classier affair. The grounds are gorgeous but, make sure you tell your guests to wear flats or shoes they can walk down stairs and across unpaved areas.
The view at the bottom near the water is impeccable. I could see a beautiful wedding taking place here especially since they have a section for a ceremony with tiered seating for optimal views and picture taking options for all guests. I imagine that the area that we were in, which as water view access, would be great for a tented reception.
I didn't see any bathroom options so, I can't comment on that but, overall this is a very beautiful venue with well manicured lawns that worked great for the event that I was at and I am sure it would for many others. It definitely has many photo op areas with...
