I bought my $10 year-long pass, and I'm going to do it again. It gets you free admittance to the conservatory, which is only $2 for non-members. They always have fun new themes and different flowers on display with information about nearly every one of their plants. It's great year round summer, spring, fall, and especially in the winter and fall when the days are getting shorter and green things in warm spaces are going away. It's a great pick-me-up for those who love plants and those with Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'm super excited about their new addition Echo the Parrot --and he likes me too, (a little too much -- I got in trouble because he, of his own volition, climbed onto me). I love that little guy. I can get him to talk for me, say, "Hi", say his name, and sing a little Hokey Pokey for me. He requires a lot of singing, talking and patience and, like the rest of us, he can have moody days, but he seems to like to have visitors sometimes.
I love their outdoor/indoor bonsai section (they have both). It's a great, educational place to take field trips. Find out when their next display is complete and bring a group. Great for kids AND adults. Groups of nearly any age.
There is more, so much more to this place, and I haven't even taken advantage of their walking trails and nature paths yet. Park a bike and walk or take your bike, dog, kid in a stroller, elderly parent or friend in a wheelchair... explore the whole place rain or shine, snow or warmth.
They even have a cafe for those looking for a nibble after a stroll. Check cafe hours, though. They're not open all...
Read moreBeing a Shuttle bus driver for a health care provider my job is to safely transport residents of our facilities to various venues for time away from the facility.. some of the outings will be for lunch, where the majority will be places where they could do something different. This nature preserve's access to its Butterfly House attraction is not ADA friendly.. The loose gravel that you see in the pictures is the same gravel that led all the way to the entrance of butterfly house.. needless to say that there was also a little bridge that we had to cross over. Mind you my residents are using walkers, and many are in wheelchairs! One of the workers that I spoke to told me that he agreed with me, and that he was going to pass it on to the people in charge.. He also stated that the current setup; including the little bridge was put in place for the scenery because people love taking graduation and wedding pictures... No one gave any thought about senior citizens, or the...

It's a great place to go and relax. Maybe sip at a tasty drink and chat on their lovely patio overlooking the scenic gardens and ponds.
The Butterfly House is a dream. It's filled with many different beautiful and interesting types of butterflies, that flutter about lazily in the air all around you.
Then there's the amazing and wonder-filled arbortorium. Here, in this giant glass building you'll find exotic plants and trees, the likes of which you've never dreamed to be possible. Living flora that can only be found growing naturally, in far-off and mysterious places that you will probably never visit in your life time.
The Rose and Herb gardens are awesome as well. Both made to form circle shaped gardens, they sit at either end of the Preserves.
There are also walking trails through the...
