All the money they spent on this entrance should've went more into the actual "zoo" what people go there for to see the animals. They made it worse for them, it's more depressing to go there now seeing them in smaller areas also not seeing many of them anymore. All you mainly see is birds and squirrels, animals you basically see in your backyard, They look neglected and have no room to be animals. All that money spent on the entrance they couldn't put actual cooling in some areas for them instead there are power cords hanging on the cages with a box fans. While on top of that all the workers were rude, lazy, and unprofessional. Especially the old lazy woman sitting in the box building for the train, Completely rude and gave my family false information. We got there right on time after she repeated it twice be there 10 mins early. The train just pulled up letting everyone off. My babies were told we couldn't get on because we didnt make it at the time she told us. My babies are 1,3, & 9 years old they were so excited to ride a train for the first time and to end the day with doing that, Instead they got their hearts broken and ended the day by that same rude lady to lazy to get up & starts yelling across her intercom that we didnt make it at the time she told us to. So we turned around headed for the exit the train starts up blowing a whistle and begins to ride off and also since im rampaging this much the last thing i have to say now is on top of that an over priced gift shop that doesn't even have souvenirs.. this place needs to be checked. Animal neglect. Animal cruelty. Unprofessional rude staff. A...
Read more-Lots of benches -we really wanted to go on the train but every time we would go the train would just leave and we were going to buy a ticket but the ticket lady left so we went to the turtle exit for a bit but when we saw the line for the train we decided to do it last but at the end the lady said the last train ride was in an hour and since only about 20 people could go at a time and the line was humongous we just left -before the remodeling there was one or two peacocks hanging around the zoo but this time there was a bunch some were in trees some were ten feet away from us everywhere we looked BAM! Peacock (kind of bad for people who do not like any bird) -we put in a navigation system and we still ended up getting lost but then we found it inside a random park wish it was a little more clear or updated so more people don’t get lost because their was lots of families at the old entrance that were very completely lost -we went to the critters cafe for a treat and their were very limited options there were chocolate and Vanilla cones and mermaid and green apple slushes and ONLY red juices very disappointing I LOVED their treats -I really wish they had more animals besides birds yea the different birds are nice but I’d like to see something else than them tbh -I think they are running out of space because they put the monkeys and hippos together?? That makes no sense whatsoever -overall fun to see all the animals just needs so more improve with about….everything

Read moreWe have visited the Baton Rouge Zoo many times since moving to Baton Rouge two years ago. It has been a wonderful spot for family outings, especially with young children. We’ve noticed and appreciated the recent renovations, which have made the environment cleaner, more welcoming, and better suited for both animals and visitors.
To continue improving the zoo experience, we hope additional funding from federal, state, or local sources can support future upgrades. For example, adding a food court or full-service restaurant would not only enhance the visitor experience but also make the zoo a potential venue for hosting events like birthday parties, weddings, or graduation celebrations.
Given Baton Rouge’s hot climate, adding ice cream stands could increase both comfort and revenue during the warmer months. Expanding air-conditioned rest areas, such as shaded lounges, indoor exhibits, or even small splash zones for kids, would offer families much-needed relief during peak heat hours.
It may also help to introduce more interactive or educational activities, such as animal talks, feeding demonstrations, or weekend programs for children. These types of experiences could encourage longer visits and repeat attendance from local families.
Overall, the Baton Rouge Zoo has made clear progress, and with continued investment, it has great potential to become a top family...
