We have loved this park for a long time, and used to be regular visitors. Their planned walking path is a great length for a natural 45 minute - 1 hour long walk, and our dog loved going for walks here to get some simulation and exercise.
Things have changed since this past Sunday, our dog was attacked here by a clearly aggressive black and white pitbull being walked by a very irresponsible owner. We were passing at a distance of about 20 feet, and the dog, unprovoked, broke away from its owner, charged at our 30-lb Golden Doodle, latched its jaw onto his chest, and wouldn't let go, even with four people kicking/hitting this dog to get it to let go. By the time we got it to let go, a very large gash was left in our dog's chest. We were both bit in the scuffle as well. The woman was still holding her dog down so we could run away, and we thought our dog was going to die, so we didn't exchange any information. We just ran to our car as fast as possible to take our dog to an ER to get immediate surgery. We now realize how big of a mistake that was because we have no information on the dog that bit us or the owner.
Our dog did miraculously survive, but we are now racking up veterinary bills (over $5k so far) and it's still going up because we had an issue with his stitches, and they'll need to be redone.
Animal control and the cops have both told us that without the owner's name there's nothing they can do to help us find them. We've also been advised by our vet that if we try and canvass vets in the area, they won't legally be able to tell us anything. But we know that it was a black and white pitbull being walked by a woman who also owned a pure white (friendly) pitbull. And we have a description of the woman (black woman in her mid 30s, heavy set, average height, very short/shaved hair). And we know it was in the West Hills neighborhood of Baltimore.
In addition to vet bills, we feel very strongly that this will likely happen again if they aren't found; the woman pulled her dog to the side of the path as soon as she saw us coming and the dog started to react, and she started sobbing and begging us to "just run" and didn't have this dog in a harness or a muzzle when she clearly knew this was an incredibly dangerous situation to put other dogs in.
We've tried contacting the administration of this park to see if there are cameras or if anyone can locate this person, and we've received no response, which had been more than frustrating.
If anyone in the West Hills Baltimore area has seen or sees this person and her dogs again (two pitbulls, one aggressive black and white, and one friendly that's just white) please reach out to us! My husband, Chris Eastwood, made a post on nextdoor and I, Meagan Barrett, have made a post on Facebook. We love dogs (even pit bulls) but this one is very dangerous, and should never have been at this park.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this, and visit this park at your own risk. If you're bringing your dog, make sure it's wearing a thick harness and a very thick collar. Some people don't know how to...
