Fantastic boardwalk

We stopped here on our way from Acadia National Park to Presque Isle airport on a whim - but found the forest to be a surprise hit! It sparked my interest owing to its welsh name (Bangor, of course, being first and foremost a place in Wales) and mention of a boardwalk. It’s a brief dirt track to the boardwalk and you then get to walk through two unique environments - all without wetting your feet! In the first, the boardwalk may float depending on the water level - providing the opportunity to bounce up and down and make waves in the marsh. Such fun! We stopped at this park because the peat bog caught my eye in a Google search! I had never been to one before and as a gardener I thought it would be something very cool to see and share with my garden club!

The peat bog is just a short walk in from the parking lot, but it is closed in the winter "due to the damage that skis and snow shoes would create on the boardwalk.".

There are still many things to see in this forest in winter even though the big is gated off. The trails are clean, not a piece of trash anywhere! The bits of reindeer moss and mini pine cones that fell from the trees were treasures for my children to examine.

If you come after a storm, the snow will likely be packed down to ice in many spots.

We didn't use it but we did see a bathroom shortly after...

My wife and I take our dogs out here to go run and walk. The main trail (numbered) are always great no matter the weather. These are the more kept up trails.

The lettered trails (ABC etc) are incredible to walk through when it hasn't rained much. Even when it has there are some spots that hold water but are easy to hop across. There are some roots and stumps from old trees that you need to watch out for as well!

Then there are named trails that run all through the forest. It's a huge playground to see some wildlife and just be out enjoying the weather. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you...
