We visited on a Tuesday in the early morning (7AM) in late June 2025. There were tons of parking spots here. This is one end of the Ocean Path Trail and there was actually a good amount of shade with the trees here. There were a couple other cars in the lot when we arrived. We stopped by here after hiking Beehive earlier in the morning and on our way to Islesford for our 9AM NPS Cruise to Little Cranberry Island. We parked and hiked across the street. The view here was stunning in the morning sun. It was even better as we only encountered 2 groups the entire 15 mins we were there. I think many folks were still making their way down the park. I can only imagine what this would look like in mid-summer or closer to mid-day. This is a great place to take pictures and let kids play a bit. I would be careful with younger kids as it is danger closer to the edge of the rocks. But the rocks here are more rounded and not super sharp and jagged. We would probably visit again if we knew there were low crowd numbers like our first experience. Otherwise there may be better places to visit in the park with less people.

The mileage between Otter Point and Otter Cliffs is about 1.1 miles with total elevation gain of only 95 feet. Views of the Atlantic Ocean all along this trek are absolutely spectacular. This is one of my favorite places to hike in Maine. I especially love visiting here during the off season months. The 100-foot high Otter Cliffs is popular with rock climbers and is viewable from many other vantage points in Acadia. From this location I often like to extend my hike further along the Ocean Path Trail; which connects to many other trails and attractions including Gorham Mountain, Sand Beach, Beehive Mountain, Great Head Trail, Thunder Hole, Monument Cove, etc. During windy coastal storms, watching the crashing waves slamming into the rocky coastline at the Otter Point area is epic to witness in person!!

We came here to see the sunrise since the road to Cadillac Mountain was closed while we were visiting in November. The park ranger had told us this was an alternative sunrise spot and I also saw it in other reviews. We may not have been on the mountain but we still had a beautiful morning at Otter Point. In November we were the only people here and it was not too cold. Highly recommend if you can’t get up to the mountain or you are here for a couple days and want a different perspective.
