Much better than our first impressions. My wife and I stayed at the Ojibaw Hotel and Casino. When we checked in, we were greeted by two women, the younger woman was very, very unfriendly, downright grouchy. Our room was located on the second floor, there are no elevators, as a senior, I was not thrilled having to wrestle our luggage up a flight of stairs. The hotel is old, the rooms are adequate, they’re small, but they’re clean, and there’s no continental breakfast. We parked by the side door but our room access cards would not allow us entry. The hotel is slightly noisy, you can actually hear people walk and feel a minor vibration as they do. The hotel gave us a discount for being AARP members, they also gave both of us $10.00 in free play in the casino and since it was our first time there, we both received an additional $10.00 in free play and we both received a free drink coupon valued at $2.50 each. The casino is updated and clean and the employees were friendly, helpful, and respectful, and the hotel room taxes were minimal. I didn’t appreciate the cigarette smoke. The hotel was a good value, the room was clean and stocked with ample amenities, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, coffee, a refrigerator, iron, hair drier, and there was a microwave located at the ice machine. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the Baraga area, but I would advise you to bring a whip and a chair to protect yourself from the grouchy, angry, woman at the front desk and insist on a...
Read moreNice place. Smoke was a little heavy and the entire casino was smoking, except for the grill. They are doing a lot of remodel work inside & outside, so things were a little chaotic. There are 3 areas with slot machines for a total of about 300. We did not win and really felt the machines were tight and had terrible payout percentages. We both hit bonus or free spins a few times. However, they paid pretty much nothing. We saw several servers with drinks and there was a self serve soda fountain. We had a good time overall. We had lunch at the Sports Book Grill and it was typical grill food straight from a freezer box. I did have beer battered French fries that were pretty darn good. For the price the food was good and filling. Our server was really great and extremely friendly. I’m so sorry I didn’t get his name, but he was the only person working the dining room, so I’m sure he know who he is. Thanks for...
Read moreUPSIDE: Large parking lot to accommodate vehicles with trailers or busses. Good price on beer, free pop and coffee machines. Two restaurants, one dining and one in bowling alley, prices average and food from Lucky Sevens was good. Bowling alley attached to casino. Low minimum bet on some tables ($3) and some video poker was 1 cent bet. DOWNSIDE: Ventilation poor and cigarette smoke was thick. Felt the slot machines were tight as well.as.table action. Hard to get service for drinks even when standing at bar. The craps and roulette tables didn't open until 6pm. COMMENTS: My wife and I gamble frequently. It's entertainment and we don't anticipate winning but can usually play slots or table action for a few hours on a couple hundred but it was gone in short order here. I did okay on video poker at bar and that's all...
