I hate camping and I hate going to the beach, but I LOVE camping on the beach ( with an over sand permit). No really, we've been coming here for 30 years with my four daughters and our friends. Now my kids have kids and two of the four have campers of their own. Life goes on. Dog friendly, though they must be tethered ( please clean up after them, don't be that guy). Port-o-pottys for the first few miles but if you're self contained it doesn't matter. Campfires allowed after sunset. No glass containers. Literally a little slice of heaven.

Easy to get to beach in Sandwich/Barnstable. Usual $25 parking fee. Large beach. Mostly gravel. Bring water shoes and you'll have a better time. There is RV parking on the beach away from the swimming beach. Water mostly calm as this is the Bay side of the Cape. Quite beautiful, which almost sounds redundant. No lifeguards. Snack bar is excellent, with great prices and generous portions. My GF and I split a club sandwich for $11.25 and it was almost too much for us! Plenty of parking if you get there early.

Sandy neck is a lovely beach and the Rangers and gate staff are always really friendly and helpful. The beach has a big snack shack/bathroom place if you are just parking in their lot. They also allow certain vehicles to drive on the beach but you need a permit. If you are the very adventurous type, you can park and walk down the marsh trail to campsites on trail four, but beware- it is a long hike and the campsite can be full of mosquitos and ticks. Best for experienced campers.

The Sandy Neck trail starts here: my stars are for the trail, not the gate house. You can park for free near the gate house if you're just hiking the trail. The trail is difficult, mostly sand, but offers beautiful views of both dunes and salt marsh. Look for cranes, ospreys, and crabs, but watch out for the very bitey greenhead flies.

We went for the hike to the campsite and were very well treated. Since we drove from CT they took our names and reserved a spot for us. It's a 3.5 mile hike to the tent site. The trail is a mix of sand, gravel and grass. Water is delivered to the tent site. Great! There are parking spots for hikers staying overnight. Great!

If you want to see a sunset, Sandy Neck Beach is one of the best spots! The beach is very long and quite wide and is not crowded after 6pm. However, there are too many stones and you may want to wear shoes/flip-flops. It’s a perfect spot for a romantic walk watching the sun going down!
