We had an unforgettable experience hiking in the White Mountains with Redline Guiding this past Saturday (June 28, 2025). Our guide, Beth, was absolutely outstanding - knowledgeable, experienced, personable, and completely dialed in to both the terrain and ever changing mountain weather.
Our hike was a challenging full-day adventure with over 4,500 feet of elevation gain and then a descent in difficult weather conditions. The plan was to summit Mount Washington via Tuckerman’s Ravine, but due to unstable snowpack and water flowing beneath it, Beth made the expert call to avoid the headwall instead re-route up Lion’s Head summer trail. Her deep knowledge of the area - her background in local search and rescue - gave us full confidence in her judgment.
We pushed on towards the summit through heavy rain, sleet, and high winds, ultimately turning back about a half mile from the top. Again, the decision was smart, well timed (and the right decision). Safety was always prioritized without compromising the spirit or the adventure.
Spending a long, physically demanding day with someone you just met could go either way - but Beth made the day truly enjoyable. She was friendly, engaging, and easy to talk to, with great stories and insights that kept us smiling (even through the rain and wind).
The White Mountains are stunning, wild, challenging and must be treated with respect. If you’re looking to explore them with someone who knows them inside and out, I can’t recommend Redline Guiding - and Beth - highly enough. It was...
Read moreAmazing day! Very responsive to questions before the hike and planning appropriate gear and checking weather conditions. My guide shared a ton of additional information and answered even more questions I had about hiking more of the 48 4Ks in the future on my own. Guides are a wealth of experience and knowledge. She also pointed out many different plants and other interesting things along the way. Great conversation, if you like to chat. If not, that’s ok too. Pace was good for me as I’m a slower hiker. Checked on me to make sure I was hydrated and feeling good. I felt very safe. I had wanted to hike both Pierce and Eisenhower on this hike, if possible based on time and my ability. When we got to top of Pierce and had lunch we reviewed how much time it would take and calculated when we’d be back to car based on my ability and how I was feeling. We did it! Time was absolutely perfect! We even had time to see a beautiful waterfall a little bit off trail on the way down. I can’t say enough great things about this experience. I’m already signed up again to hike Mount Washington in the future. In the meantime I feel more confident and better prepared to hike more on my own. Plus they offer other classes to help you learn how to use a compass, introduction to backpacking 101, wilderness first aid, winter...
Read moreMy sister and I just completed the ”48s” with a little help on several of them from Redline guides Pat, Mike M and Chase - thank you guys so much; you’re awesome! And Mike Cherim was exceptionally responsive as a business owner and organizer for our hikes. We decided that “going with a guide” on a couple of the longer and/or more difficult hikes was wise. The White Mountains are incredibly beautiful and not high relative to other ranges, but can present significant risks from the changeable and potentially dangerous weather, falls, exposure and the like. There is safety in numbers, and in knowledge, and as it was just the two of us, we felt a guide was a good safety measure. Redline’s guides have experience and certain certifications (wilderness first aid, etc.,) that add to that safety buffer. The company’s commitment to the hiking/outdoors community is evident from the many excellent articles on the website on hiking, safety, gear, etc.and the fact that several of the guides are volunteers with area search and rescue organizations. We feel we made some good friends over this summer and give them two...
