This is another spot within the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park that ought to be visited. The other is the bicycle shop just west of downtown Dayton. I liked how the exhibits were a good bit different than the visitor center at the bicycle shop, which made for some variety. The 1/2 hour video in the auditorium is the same, but that video is so good it warranted a second viewing for me. I have been to a good deal of national parks, and the video here is one of the best among them, mostly for conveying the roller-coaster of emotions and hardships/successes that the brothers experienced in their efforts to fly.
Anyway, this visitor center is small, but features some cool interactive exhibits, and focuses solely on flight. The bicycle shop visitor center has a good deal of Paul Laurence Dunbar history as well as the flight history due to its proximity to his...
Read moreI'm a history nerd who loves planning trips that require multiple stops at multiple sites to "see it all." That being said, I found planning a Wright Bros. trip to the Dayton area rather annoying. There are a lot of bits & pieces in lots of places, and most websites don't make it clear what they have there, nor where to put it in the order of places to go.
If your mission sounds like mine, I recommend that you START HERE. There is a small, but very informative, visitor center, and unlike most of the sites in downtown Dayton, it is lightly attended, giving one ample time to learn.
Moreover, if you travel with kids or with folks who "get their fill" of historical sites faster than you do, there is also a nice monument on a hill with a great vista, and lots of picnic tables with space for kids...

It also meant that I couldn’t get my Passport Stamp. I literally had the park to myself since the VC was closed. It was easy to get to as there was only one entrance since the Air Force Base gate was closed. When I arrived, there were plenty of parking spaces as it had more parking around the corner.
The reason for the 3 star was that it was ‘OK’ with the remainder of the property. If I can get back here when it is open, I will change this...
