Overall not a bad experience but it was not great.
I got a free greens fee under my Disney park pass, so I decided to try the Disney golf experience.
Pro Shop: The pro shop was well stocked and the staff were courteous 5âď¸
Locker room: Fairly clean and nice displays of older golfersâ lockers 4âď¸
Putting green: The putting green was in decent quality but it had just been sanded so that is understandable. The putting greens has an 18 hole putt putt course built into it that is a great exercise to acclimate to a new green speed. 4âď¸
Club Rental: The rentals were high quality and well-cleaned. The staff were a bit rude as I returned my clubs but thatâs alright. I personally wish that Disney would add a lob wedge to the set of rentals as the set was lacking in that regard. 3âď¸
Range: we were held to mats to hit off of which is fine in the winter but during the dead of growing season it makes no sense and was slightly annoying. The range balls were often cut up to the point that they were unusable. 3âď¸
Chipping green: their is no place to hit some chips before s round which was disappointing 1âď¸
Starter: there was no starter on duty when I was there, even though they were supposed to be and multiple people at the clubhouse told me to find the starter to get my scorecard, pencil, and to tee off 0âď¸
Tee boxes: the tees were very short for anyone who has played for a fair amount of time. the tee boxes were in need of a new position due to divots but otherwise the tees were good. 2âď¸
Fairways/Rough: kept in good quality and were in pretty good condition. Needed some sand in divots along the fairway but otherwise was good 4âď¸
Greens/fringe: the greens were bumpy and uneven. The fringe was also not well cut so it was difficult to get a clean lie to chip from 3âď¸
Playing partners: I wouldnât bring this up as itâs not under the control of Disney, but the agent that set up my teatime, said that I would be playing with two experienced golfers, which is what I prefer. The two golfers I was paired with happen, playing for a cumulative one month. He created a big gap that made it really hard to connect with playing...
Read moreI have played Oak Trail twice...the first time I played it solo. It was raining (what Florida calls rain) so the staff was a little surprised when I showed up for a 06:45 tee time. I explained that as a golfer from Oklahoma what they were calling ârainâ we called mist. I walked 9 holes that kicked my a$$ because (unbeknownst to me) the course had just been cut to PGA standards to help the pros get ready for the Fuji the next week.
When I got back to the clubhouse my 4 year old son joined me and the staff BENT OVER BACKWARDS to encourage him. They gave him a bag tag for his junior bag, let us hit a bucket on the driving range, and even coached him a little on the putting green. Then they gave us a cart and let us tour the 18 hole. They cemented my sonâs love of golf that continues today.
A few years later I played the course with a foursome consisting of my aforementioned son and my two daughters. By this time my son was a -3 and my daughters were a -9 and a -12. We played well in the shorter cut and enjoyed the themed holes, but mostly we loved the joy the staff took in our familyâs love of the game. Again they encouraged the kids, gave them bag tags and themed golf balls, and even a little ad hoc coaching.
If you love golf and you have a family who loves the game you cannot beat the experience you will have at Disneyâs Oak Trail. The staff is the Gold standard for encouraging a youth and family love of the game.
Personally I thank each and every one of the ladies and gentlemen at Oak Trail for their dedication and professionalism. You are...
Read moreOak Trail is a fantastic 9 hole walking course located at Disney World. BUT THIS IS NOT A BEGINNERS GOLF COURSE!
too many people see "9 hole walking course" and assume its easy. It is not, the fairways are tight, and the greens are small and elevated which can make for some incredibly difficult shots.
If you are a beginner, PLEASE be appropriate with your pace of play. Golf is for everyone, and I love seeing new players out. But for the love of all things holy, learn how to keep your pace of play up. Play best ball with your partner, improve your lie, don't hit out of the woods, and don't take 5 mulligans, especially when someone is waiting on you. Play the game in a way that is quick and enjoyable as you learn to play. if you're in the woods all the time you're just going to get frustrated and slow down the entire course. One group can derail pace of play to the point the course is unplayable.
To the Disney Staff at this course - PLEASE educate golfers going out on this course. A slow round at Oak trail should take 2 hours and 15 minutes, an average round should be right around 2 hours. Due to the slow play I've been seeing rounds take over 2 hours...
