The work being done here on whales, dolphins, and more is unreal. The director, Keith, is an absolute wealth of knowledge, charming, and passionate about the possible changes we can make to affect positive change for the livelihood of many species along the NC coast. While the center is not generally open, contact them through their website or social media and arrange a visit if possible. The building is chock full of some one of a kind, only one in the world, fully articulated skeletons. Each with their own story, history, and detailed information. Teaming up with numerous education and research partners, they're moving forward the baseline of understanding how many of these wonderful animals are evolving, their history as a species, and ultimately coming to as many questions as conclusions. The staff and volunteers of the center are doing amazing work and deserve all of the positive feedback and praise they can get. Bonehenge was a life changing experience for my wife and I, and if you have a love for the ocean and its multitude of inhabitants, it is not to be missed.

If you have any interest of conservation efforts in any capacity, this is a must stop! Keith was an absolute pleasure to meet and his knowledge, love & passion for whale conservation shines through not only in the displays, but through his story telling about each whale they have on display. The attention to detail to preserve the remains is remarkable! Keep in mind that this is a working facility and not a museum, so respect the work still being created for others enjoyment. Follow the instructions on the website to reserve a time to visit as it’s not open to the public-You won’t be disappointed! This was the highlight of our trip to the area, by far!

Fantastic place with dedicated employees and volunteers. Learned so much today about whales and whale/human interactions. Mad me sad and motivated to do something. They are the Marine mammal stranding network for North Carolina and handle the dead and dying stranded whales, dolphins, seals, etc. that end up on our beaches. They work mostly on donations and grants. They put together the bones of the stranded cetaceans to be used in displays by themselves other educational museums and facilities. Support this place if you can they do great work! .
