Had a wonderful experience for a short visit to Cape Lookout National Seashore! We booked tickets from Harkers Island to Cape Lookout online and were even able to board an earlier ferry there and back! The ticket booth attendant was helpful in letting us know we could board slightly earlier for each departure to and from Cape Lookout. While on the island, we had a fabulous experience at the gift shop with Glenn. He let us look inside a National Parks Passport book and explained how to get stamps and stickers. He even allowed us to checkout and store our treasures behind the desk with him while we continued our exploration of the island! On our way out of the gift shop, we ran into Ranger Sabrina, who was so nice to answer any questions and give us history and knowledge on the surround areas! Highly recommend this trip to Cape Lookout National Seashore and specifically talking to Glenn and Sabrina! We will be back when the lighthouse is open again for...
Read moreWhat a Great 1/2 day Journey! Harkers Island Ferry takes you on a 15 minute ride to Cape Lookout and drops you off at the Lighthouse. There's a friendly gift-shop and a covered area to wait for the next truck to take you over the sand (cost $26 for two roundtrip)and drop you off at the Point. You can see waves coming in on both sides of the point which is breathtaking. It really does look like a painting--no city stuff--just pure sand and sea and gulls and shells--lots of beautiful shells. Bring a good sized bucket or tote to bring your treasures home. I waded out into the channel waves and found several large unbroken beauties--whelks and many other kinds. Enjoy the journey, exploring Cape Lookout, and this one-of-a-kind experience. Bring a cooler for snacks and drinks. There's no restrooms or shade on the point so bring a blanket, tent, and/or hat. *The truck picks people up every hour at the same spot they...
Read moreWhat a beautiful park to spend part of the day at. We had some rain as soon as we got there but we're able to take shelter near the lighthouse until it cleared. The park was so clean and well kept, which was surprising considering you need to take your own trash off with you when you leave. The lighthouse was closed for renovations so we weren't able to climb it during our visit, but it was still great to get to visit. Cape Lookout was our last Outer Banks lighthouse we needed to visit, and it was a great experience with out family. If you are planning to visit, definitely make sure you bring some sort of shade for yourself of you are staying down at the beach. There are no trees or pavilions provided and it is very sunny. Tons of shells as well, my brother even found a full conch shell just laying near the water! Beautiful park, would definitely recommend visiting if you are...
