What a great hike to a beautiful incredible view. Lots of parking down at the Sharp Top Shop. You can pick up tickets in the shop for the shuttle to take you to top. You can also get a few camping items, drinks and snacks in the shop. The shuttle comes every hour. Now if you get Chris as your driver, you are in for an adventure. My wife and I were cracking up the whole way, because the ride was crazy. Chris was chatting it up and flying up the very narrow, windy and steep road. On the way back it felt like being on a Rollercoaster. He knows the road by the back of his hand, just quite a trip. Drops you off at the top, then you have a little bit of a climb to top. Lots of rocky stairs on the pathway up. There a couple of place you can stop and look over the outlooks. Mid-fall when we went and the leaves were turning nice reds and yellows. Once you get to the top there are a number of large rocks you can climb on. Also some outlooks. The view is amazing! You can see for miles and miles. There are trails you can take to the top or back down if you don't want to ride the bus. There is a small lake close by with a restaurant and lodge, then tons of camping 🏕 sites you can rent. If you are ever in the area or just a nature buff, this...

This Mountain is a Good Hike. The terrain is NOT for Sneakers or sandals or someone that has a bad knee, ankle or hip. It's amazes me to see people wearing sneakers, sandals or they cant breath very well on excursion on the ground level and/or have bad knees! I guess the brain isn't good either. The Terrain is uneven, rocky ( you hike on rocks that turn and roll), there are many, many, many steps to climb. People also bring their dogs on a leash but, if the dog isn't use to hiking uphill, stepping on rocks and taking many steps, do your loveable pet a favor and leave it home. Plus, do yourself and your athletic dog a favor and bring water! This type of Terrain is hard on human ankles, knees ect and it's hard on the dogs too. Remember, to be considerate of others and bring a poop bag to pick up after your dog. You can purchase a round trip bus ride or purchase one way up or down and you do that BEFORE you go. The restrooms are BEFORE you hike because there aren't any on the trail or at the top. Bring your camera for the views on Top. Be safe, wear Hiking boots, bring water and a snack if you want. But, Hike...

You can take a shuttle on the hour until 4. I hiked it and I figure the 1.5 miles x return took me 2 hours. Please bring lots of water and hiking shoes. There are massive inclines, stairs and rocks. Everytime you thought you were at the top the path went down, back up. The final portion was very strenous. There is a log cabin at the top and various views. Make sure you have repellent, the flies were at war up there! I thought the view was decent; maybe it was hazy and I was tired. I ended up staying 30 mins as I toyed with my cam settings. Then as I was going down a deer was in the path. I videotaped the deer eating for a while and then ran down carefully. If it was not for my hiking shows I would have twisted my ankle. Maybe this is a really cool hike...

We made it to Buzzard's Roost and I can definitely say the whole trail needs a lot of work. It starts off well enough, but soon showed all the signs of being really washed out. That made the rocks jut out and made for uneven ankle-twisting footing in areas there was a less bushy track. Others were too bushy to see where the rocks and roots were. The rocks that are bigger on the trail were sometimes too big to climb without crawling on all fours. The railings that are there help, however, there are many places that the pole was still present but the railing was either rotting or gone entirely. Duct tape was the answer for one rail. The tape will outlive the wooden rail. Bring your determination and water with you.

Tough but rewarding hike to the top of Sharp Top Mountain. 360° views of the surrounding landscape and multiple rock formations to climb on at the summit. Lots of steep rock stairs and a consistently challenging hike. We did it with two kids (8 and 6) and took us an hour and 20 mins to get to the top. Views are definitely worth the effort. There’s also a WWII bomber wreck in the woods, take Buzzard’s Roost path (near the top) and follow the slightly less worn path 0.25-0.5 miles down 450’ of elevation drop. Be prepared, it’s steep and after seeing it you have to climb back up. We hiked it in October so the path was also more slippery because of leaf cover. Cool sight for anyone interested in plane crash sites.
