Our very first time here, we took out of town friends, based on the reviews which were mostly positive. We got there and the parking lot was very busy. The restaurant/lodge is in the most gorgeous location with nearby walking trails and camping. We signed in and were told we would have a 30 minute wait. We took that as a positive sign initially, but then noticed the dining room was actually pretty empty. Still the views are amazing and the wait went by quickly. Once seated we noticed the place was really understaffed and for such a large place, the seating wasn't being managed efficiently. Each server was serving across the entire dining room, which is a sprawling affair. The lady who served us was really friendly and made some great recommendations. Sadly, the service was still lacking. Mistakes made with drinks, confusion about what table ordered what and a general feeling that everyone on staff was rushing and frustrated really impacted the mood. I am 100% positive if they were not understaffed the experience would have been much better. Sadly, like everywhere else, they are understaffed, but more than time/waits are affected due to seemingly poor planning. When the food was served, it was underwhelming. The food that was served was well prepared, served timely and at the correct temperatures, but generally lacking in flavor. The nachos were really good. Would give these 4/5. Bourbon BBQ Brisket sandwich had so much potential, but I really didn't enjoy it at all. The white bread was ok. Typical of white bread served with BBQ. Both pieces were covered in brisket and sliced cheddar. A very generous portion. Sadly the individual components of the sandwich were not great. The brisket was 2/5, the BBQ sauce very sweet and overly generous. I am sure some people love it, but to me it was just there to mask the fact that the brisket was mediocre. And I personally don't prefer very sweet BBQ Sauce. That was a risk I knew I was taking. The cheese was average sliced cheese. The accompanying waffle fries were pretty good. The view is amazing. The food middle of the road.

Server was Lauren S. And this was at 8pm on Saturday. Went and ordered the Sirloin which was 30 dollars. Decided it was okay because it was 10oz. Ordered medium and got a large in height, very rare centered steak. I told my server and she acknowledged it was very rare and took it back. 6 or so minutes later another steak was brought out which is pictured. Instead of being the size of the first steak, it was incredibly thin and not very large. She had me cut it in half in front of her, then asked if it was good. At that point I was done due to the fact it was basically well-done, way too much butter, and my sides were ruined. The vegetables were cold and I guess the plate sat while they made the steak, because the fry’s were soggy from the vegetable juices and the steak butter. We sat for 15ish minutes where I did not eat any food and waited on a check. She came by twice and the first time thanked me for being patient, then she came by again later asking if I wanted a box, thanking me for being patient once I said no, and telling me sorry it didn’t turn out how I liked. It came out incorrect twice, and the second time it tasted bad from the bite I tried. I didn’t eat anything and definitely should not of had to pay for a steak I cut in half. At no point did she offer to have it removed or apologize that it was incorrect. Photos of the ā€œmedium 10z steakā€.

We visited on a Friday in early November 2024 a little after noon for lunch. There was very little parking left in the lot out front. There were multiple folks driving around waiting for others to leave. We ordered: • Chicken Tenders (Way over priced for what you get) • Irish Nachos (Very good) • Southern Fried Green Tomatoes (Amazing) • Blue Ridge Chicken Melt (Fried) (Very good) • Flat Top Mountain Steak Sub (Very good) The chicken tenders were a complete rip off. For same price we could've went to Costco and purchased a entire bag for 4 small pieces. The main downside to all these dishes is the cost for what you get. There is definitely a premium since there isn't food anywhere else nearby. The best item was the Fried Green Tomatoes. I could've eaten another dozen of those. We asked for out order to go so we could take it outside with us to eat next to the water. There was plenty of seating outside. They give you a pager for take out orders and they let you know when it's ready. You can't venture very far from the lodge but you can sit just outside and wait. There is a nice small sitting area downstairs with games if you have kids to keep them entertained. Overall, we would probably eat here again. Mainly because you don't have another option. The food quality was great but the value was very poor.

Halloween 2024 šŸŽƒBeen going here all my life but today was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had anywhere . First had to sit at the bar as long wait to be seated. No one at reception area. Then given wrong menu so sat and decided what to eat , but later found out couldn’t order . Bartender never came in the 40 -45 min wait there , asked to go to a table in the dinning room . Waiter very inattentive and kept saying ā€œ I don’t know that much ā€œ he was new ? could not answer questions about the menu and if we could get drinks . He went to ask someone , but bartender was waitressing , took our drinks order .At this point , I wanted to leave , but my date wanted to order from disappointing menu as by now 1:30 , not having eaten all day and the lodge is in the middle of nowhere , we stayed . Soarter folks walked out . Someone came to Our table and said they didn’t have ingredients for one of the drinks we ordered ( now over an 1 hr there no drinks, not even water ). OK make without the ingredient . Got drinks finally , ordered simple sandwiches. No food for another 30-40 more mins ! .Finished drink , ordered another drink, time passed …..So I went to desk to find out about a nearby winery . Kinda told them how badly it was going . Background is. ; knew they are short staffed , all of October , some random people from other depts filling in and corporate going to dump this ā€œ small venueā€ at end of their contract so no one cares that customers are treated this way . Second drink , still waiting , finally asked the woman who seated us, where is the food ? , she flippantly said , I’m the accountant , I don’t know much . After awhile more , another woman came over to our table and asked ā€œ is everything alright ?ā€ So I respectfully said we would like to get our food very nicely told her about being there almost two hours , and she said the kitchen backs up and never catches up and thanked me for the feedback . She said she would go check on our order . After 10-15 mins more , Waiter brought food dropped it in front of us and scurried off . I ordered in house made beanburger and it was not cooked , my fries and my dates waffle fries were stone cold . No condiments . Same me lady came by and I mentioned that it was cold , etc. She left brought back a couple of dozen fries fir us that were at least warm . My date ate his grilled cheese . Just ate a few fries , tried a couple bites and paid check , tipped waiter well even though he was awful . Felt sick the rest of the afternoon , got to winery but felt so badly had to leave . Just wondering why if they know they have these problems , kitchen backing up, short of service people or people masquerading as waiters and waitresses but still open the doors to torture the customers. Not nice . A TRICK but this...

We called ahead per the instructions on the website and let them know a group of people were coming and they said no problem over the phone. We arrived with a small group for lunch on Sunday and the server was immediately frustrated that she had to serve a party. Without an introduction, a hello, a welcome, she simply said "I hope you all know that having separate checks is going to add over 30 minutes to the time it takes to check out." I think there were 6 separate checks for the whole party. The server was impatient and curt the entire time she dealt with us. The food took over an hour to arrive. They made several mistakes on the orders and even forgot to bring items out completely. One member of the party ordered soup as an appetizer and it never arrived. At the end of the lunch she let the server know and instead of offering to take it off the bill, she said I'll go get it now. This was about an hour and forty five minutes after we had ordered and we were about to leave. She then asked if she could just take it off the bill and the server was annoyed by the suggestion but ended up doing it. It was a terrible experience for our group. We were there for a family celebration with people from out of town.

The food we ordered was just OK. Nothing special and not worth the price. It looked hastily put together and some of the items came cold that were supposed to be hot. By this time, we just wanted to eat and leave so we didn't ask them to re-do it. The meals came out randomly. There was about a 30 minute difference between the first meal that came out to the table and the last. We had no special orders, just ordered off the menu. One person did ask they hold the onions on a sandwich and the servers snapped back, "is this a preference or an actual allergy." I've never heard that question asked before. The server was simply unhappy that she had to serve a group of people at a restaurant that is designed for serving groups of people. Her attitude and the terrible service made the experience uncomfortable and awkward. The servers were all running around looking stressed and there didn't seem to be anyone in charge. It was just a disappointing and unfortunate way to end a fun family weekend where people from all over the country came for a celebration. I don't...

This was the worst experience I have had in a while. I usually will not give a one star no matter how bad a restaurant is, but this experience nearly ruined our whole mini vacation with our kids. We chose to come here because of the beautiful dining area with a view, the menu items, and the walk area around a beautiful lake. When we first arrived, the parking was decent and right in front of the entrance. As we walked in we were not greeted, instead I was stared at with a face of utter annoyance as she waited for me to initiate what I came in for. I proceed to tell her "good afternoon we're here for the dining area? For four?" She annoyingly grabs 4 menus and asks if we need a high chair. She leads us to our table, tosses the menus to each one of us and leaves. Our waitress, Brandy, was magnificent throughout the whole time we were there. She was extremely courteous and helpful and is the only one who deserves 5 stars on our visit. We ordered the nachos and caprese salads for our appetizers which were ok. It did take forever to get our main dishes though, watching people who arrived after us eat and leave which was rather frustrating but my family handled it with grace so I commend my hungry husband and two kids for waiting so patiently and making the best out of the wait. When we finally got our main dishes, they were extremely unbearably cold. Having worked in a restaurant environment, I know this has nothing to do with our waitress. We decided to just box everything and leave. If it wasn't for Brandy, we wouldn't have left with an ounce of integrity. My husband and I travel for work, we have practically visited every southern state and have experienced so many diverse atmospheres that....it's hard not to ignore a certain... Vibe. It made for a long conversation during the hour and a half it took to get back to Lynchburg which is where we were staying. Hopefully this was just an off day and all these 4/5 star reviews are the norm. As for me and my family, we won't be returning to this restaurant. The Shenandoah mountains are so vast, I'm sure we will find the hidden gem we were originally...
